Honda is gearing up to launch its new 100cc commuter bike on March 15 this year in the Indian market. The company has released the first official teaser of the upcoming bike, implying to target rural markets this time. According to some reports, the Honda motorcycle has a direct rival in the form of the Hero Splendor that has remained the country's highest-selling model in the 100cc segment for a while. Notably, the Honda commuter bike will come equipped with an Onboard Diagnostic Device (OBD) to comply with the BS6 Phase II emission norms. The new norms will come into effect from April 1, 2023. Considering the engine capacity of 100cc, the upcoming motorcycle will deliver value for money.

We anticipate the launch of the Honda 100cc bike at an event in Mumbai. Having said that, the bike could bear resemblance with the CG Dream series of commuter motorcycles that is sold in international markets. The upcoming 100cc model will borrow design cues from the 125cc Honda Shine and is likely to be placed under the Shine brand. But, there has been no official confirmation regarding this.

The Honda 100cc bike will be powered by a 100cc engine that is enough to churn out 7.8bhp of power and 8Nm of peak torque, similar to its arch-rival, the Hero Splendor Plus. It will probably be monikered as the Honda Shine 100.

However, not much has been known in terms of its features. There is a high probability that the new Honda motorcycle may get a conventional dashboard, a fully digital instrument cluster, an LED DRL, a start/stop system, and others. Such features are not common in the entry-level motorcycle segment.

The new Honda 100cc bike is expected to be priced more affordably than the Honda CD110 and the Honda Livo in the 100-110cc segment. The upcoming Honda model could go from Rs 73,000 to Rs 76,000 (ex-showroom). Once launched, it could take on the likes of the Bajaj Platina, the Hero HF Deluxe, and the Hero Splendor Plus.

Also, the company is preparing to introduce the Activa Electric - Honda's first electric scooter - next year. It will come equipped with a fixed battery and have a top speed of 50km/h.
