KTM is all set to launch the much-anticipated 390 Enduro R – its rugged off-road motorcycle based on the 390 platform – in India tomorrow. While the India-spec version shares its core mechanicals with the international model, including the 399cc engine, key differences set the two apart. The domestic variant is expected to be more accessible, with changes to the suspension, seat height, and hardware. In contrast, the global version retains higher-spec components aimed at serious trail and rally use. Built for riders seeking rugged performance, the Indian version of the 390 Enduro R will be tailored specifically for local preferences and terrain, and is set to rival offerings like the Kawasaki KLX230. This comparison explores the distinctions in performance, features, and design, offering insight for adventure riders and enthusiasts keen to see what KTM is bringing to India’s off-road segment.

KTM 390 Enduro R: India vs Global

- Suspension Tweaks: While the international version of the 390 Enduro R gets top-spec WP Apex suspension offering 230mm of travel at both ends, the Indian-spec bike will see reduced suspension travel – 200mm up front and 205mm at the rear – matching the setup seen on the 390 Adventure. These revisions aim to make the bike more manageable and better suited to a wider range of Indian riders.

- Seat Height: These changes also impact dimensions. The seat height has been lowered from 890mm to 860mm, and ground clearance now stands at 253mm instead of 272mm, improving approachability without compromising too much on trail readiness.

- Different Tyres: Although wheel sizes remain consistent with the international version, the tyres will differ. The Austrian bikemaker is opting for locally manufactured Mitas Enduro Trail+ semi-knobby tyres, produced by Reise Moto. These tyres strike a balance between road and trail grip and are widely respected for their off-road performance.

KTM 390 Enduro R: Engine Specs

Powering the motorcycle is the brand’s 399cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine, delivering 45.37bhp and 39Nm of torque – figures identical to those of the new Duke and Adventure. A six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch rounds out the drivetrain. Despite region-specific adjustments, the Indian version retains the core capabilities of the international model, offering serious trail performance with added accessibility for local riders.

Built on the same 390 platform, the new KTM shares several components with the latest 390 Adventure. The main frame and swingarm are also carried over from the Adventure, while braking is handled by a 285mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc. Fuel capacity stands at 9 litres, and the motorcycle weighs 177 kg, making it slightly lighter than its Adventure sibling.

The Enduro model will be positioned between the Adventure and the more affordable Adventure X in the bikemaker’s domestic lineup.
