Retailing at Rs 3.37 lakh, the 390 Enduro R commands only a slight premium over the KLX230 (priced at Rs 3.30 lakh), yet it delivers significantly greater performance, while the Kawasaki’s lightweight frame ensures nimble, off-road-friendly handling. All prices are ex-showroom.

KTM 390 Enduro R Seat

Weighing a hefty 177 kg, the KTM 390 Enduro R is substantially heavier than the Kawasaki KLX230, which maintains a slim profile at just 139 kg. Despite its lighter frame, the KLX230 comes with a taller seat height of 880mm, whereas the KTM offers a lower 860mm seat, which may be more accommodating for shorter riders.

The KTM also features a longer wheelbase, though it sacrifices some ground clearance in comparison to the KLX. On the upside, the 390 Enduro R is equipped with a larger 9-litre fuel tank, offering extended riding range over the KLX’s 7.6-litre capacity.

Kawasaki KLX 230 Engine

The KTM 390 Enduro R is equipped with the same 399cc single-cylinder engine found in the 390 Duke and 390 Adventure, producing 45.37bhp at 8,500rpm and 39Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. It is coupled with a six-speed transmission. The suspension system includes a 43mm USD front fork with adjustable compression and rebound, paired with a monoshock rear setup that offers adjustable rebound and preload. For braking, the Enduro R features a 285mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc, along with switchable dual-channel ABS. It is mounted on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels, shod with tubed knobby tyres designed for off-road performance.

In comparison, the Kawasaki KLX 230 houses a 233cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine mated to a 6-speed gearbox, producing 18bhp at 8,000rpm and 18.3Nm of torque at 6,400rpm. Built on a steel perimeter frame, it features a 37mm telescopic front fork with 240mm of travel, while the rear monoshock offers 250mm of wheel travel with preload adjustment. It is equipped with 265mm front and 220mm rear petal disc brakes, supported by dual-channel ABS. Like the KTM, it also rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheels, fitted with dual-purpose tyres.

The KTM 390 Enduro R features a 4.2-inch TFT display with two ride modes – Street and Off-road – alongside advanced functions like switchable ABS, traction control, Bluetooth, and turn-by-turn navigation for a highly connected experience.

On the other hand, the Kawasaki KLX230 boasts an LCD screen with smartphone connectivity via the Kawasaki Rideology app, allowing riders to receive call and message alerts. It also offers practical features such as a luggage rack and USB-C charging port.
