Auto Expo 2023: Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door, Fronx Revealed; Check Details Here

Auto Expo 2023: Maruti Suzuki has pulled covers from its long-awaited models, the Baleno Cross, dubbed the Fronx, and the Jimny 5-Door in India. Bookings for both Maruti Suzuki models have started and the Fronx will reportedly hit Indian roads in April 2023. The Grand Vitara and the Baleno of the current generation served as design inspiration for the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. It has a redesigned mesh grille with a chrome strip, eyebrow-shaped LED DRLs, a sizable bumper, and headlights above the bumper. It gets new alloy wheels, body cladding, roof rails, and a side profile. The Jimny 5-Door, on the other hand, is a boxy SUV with wide wheel arches, a front grille that is vertical, circular headlights, and rectangular taillights. The Jimny may have steel wheels whereas the lower-spec variants may have alloy wheels, depending on the variants for India. The back door, which opens to the right on side hinges, houses the spare tyre.

Mechanically, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol BoosterJet engine, a notable carryover from the Baleno RS but in a new smart-hybrid configuration that will offer 99bhp and 147Nm. A six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and a five-speed manual transmission will be mated to the engine. There will also be a 1.2-litre petrol engine from the Baleno that can provide 89bhp and 113Nm of torque. It will be mated to either a five-speed manual or an automatic manual transmission. However, the new Jimny will have the same 1.5-litre engine that is currently available with the Ertiga, Ciaz, and most recent Brezza.

The estimated price of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx in India is Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom). It will go on sale in  April 2023 and be distributed through Nexa stores. After being introduced in India, the car won't allegedly face any direct competition, but it could be an alternative to cars like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Punch, and Citroen C3. There is no update about the expected launch and price of the Jimny 5-Door. However, bookings for the model have begun in India, which hints at its arrival in our market anytime soon. Auto Expo 2023, which has returned after a period of almost 3 years in India, has currently been witnessing several unveilings and launches by diverse carmakers other than Maruti Suzuki like MG Motor India, and Hyundai Motor India.
