Tata Motors has finally fulfilled the long-standing wish of enthusiasts who wanted the Harrier and Safari in a petrol avatar. Until now, both SUVs were offered exclusively with diesel engines, even before their facelifted versions, making this the first time Tata is introducing petrol-powered options for the duo.
The petrol variants are slated to launch on December 9, 2025, and while official pricing is yet to be announced, they are expected to be positioned slightly below their diesel counterparts. For reference, the current ex-showroom prices of the diesel versions range from Rs 14.66 lakh to Rs 25.96 lakh for the Safari, and Rs 14 lakh to Rs 25.25 lakh for the Harrier.
The Tata Harrier and Safari will have a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder T-GDi turbo petrol engine, likely to be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT) gearbox. The unit produces 168bhp of maximum power, similar to the existing 2-litre diesel unit, but lower torque at 280Nm, compared to the latter's 350Nm.
