Hero MotoCorp's Mavrick 440, built on the same platform as the Harley-Davidson X 440, has been launched in our market. Priced between Rs 1.99 lakh and Rs 2.24 lakh (ex-showroom), the Mavrick 440 is the brand's first middleweight bike for the Indian market. While it rivals the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Honda CB350, and the Jawa 350, we compare the Hero Mavrick 440 with its platform sibling, the Harley-Davidson X440, to see what distinguishes the two.

<h2>Hero Mavrick 440 vs Harley-Davidson X 440: Engine</h2>

Powering Hero's new Mavrick 440 is a 440cc single-cylinder air/oil-cooled engine, which is mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch. While both the Hero Mavrick 440 and the Harley-Davidson X 440 use the same powertrain and are equally powerful (27bhp at 6,000rpm), the former produces 36Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm, which is 2Nm lower than that of the latter (38Nm at 4,000rpm). However, the Mavrick 440 tips the scales at 187kgs (kerb), which is 3.5kgs less than the X 440.

Both bikes feature the same trellis frame; however, they have different suspension setups. The Mavrick 440 uses a 43mm telescopic fork at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear, while the Harley-Davidson X 440 gets an upside-down fork at the front and a twin shock setup at the rear.

Another <a href="https://www.autox.com/videos/hero-mavrick-440-how-different-is-it-from-the-harley-davisdon-x440-first-look-2024-autox-115955/">difference between the two</a> is the tyre size. The Mavrick 440 comes with 17-inch wheels (spoked or alloy) wrapped in 110/70 front and 150/60 rear tyres, unlike the X 440's 100/90-18 and 140/70-17 setup. The braking hardware of both motorcycles, however, remains the same – a 320mm disc at the front and a 240mm disc at the rear.

The wheelbase, ground clearance, and seat height of the Mavrick 440 stand at 1,388mm, 175mm, and 803mm, respectively. Its Harley counterpart, on the other hand, has a wheelbase of 1,418mm, a ground clearance of 170mm, and a seat height of 805mm. Both bikes feature a 13.5-litre fuel tank.

<h2>Hero Mavrick 440 vs Harley-Davidson X 440: Styling</h2>

This is where the differences between the two are more pronounced. The Hero Mavrick 440 is a roadster with a muscular design, a robust fuel tank with integrated tank extensions, a round LED headlamp with an H-shaped daytime running light, small-sized indicators, a single-piece seat, and a slim rear end.

In comparison, the Harley-Davidson X 440, built at Hero MotoCorp’s manufacturing facility in Rajasthan, draws styling cues from the American brand's XR 1200. The X 440 has a chunky front end, featuring a circular LED headlamp with a light bar running across the centre, indicators with Harley logos, and a big fuel tank. Other bits include a long, single-piece saddle, and meaty grab rails.

<h2>Hero Mavrick 440 vs Harley-Davidson X 440: Riding Ergonomics</h2>

In terms of riding ergonomics, the Hero Mavrick 440 offers an upright riding stance, courtesy of an 803mm seat, neutral-set foot pegs, optimised grab rails, and wide handlebars. The Harley-Davidson X 440, on the other hand, gets mid-set foot pegs, wide and flat handlebars, and an 805mm saddle, all of which allow for a comfortable and sportier riding position.

Features-wise, the Mavrick 440 offers an LCD display with Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and call and message alerts. The left side of the display is circular and offers information regarding speed, revolutions per minute, gear position, and indicator lights, while the right side of the display&nbsp;is rectangular and shows navigation data and notifications. Other bits include full LED lighting, dual-channel ABS, and a USB-C charging port.

The feature list of the Harley-Davidson X 440 remains almost the same as its platform sibling; however, it gets a colour TFT display, unlike the Mavrick's LCD unit.&nbsp;

<h2>Hero Mavrick 440 vs Harley-Davidson X440: Price, Variants</h2>

The Hero Mavrick 440 is available in three variants – base, mid, and top, which are priced at Rs 1.99 lakh, Rs 2.14 lakh, and Rs 2.24 lakh, respectively. The entry-level variant with spoked wheels comes in Arctic White colour, while the mid variant with alloys can be had in two dual-tone colour schemes – Fearless Red and Celestial Blue. Phantom Black and Enigma Black are the available paint schemes for the top variant with diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Hero's top-spec Mavrick 440 is Rs 16,000 more affordable than the <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/bike-news/harley-davidson-x440-denim-vivid-and-s-variants-explained-price-starts-from-rs-229-lakh-in-india-113837/">Harley-Davidson Denim variant</a> (Rs 2.40 lakh). The latter's mid-spec Vivid and top-spec S are priced at Rs 2.60 lakh and Rs 2.80 lakh, respectively. All prices are ex-showroom.

Harley-Davidson’s newest sports cruiser is on its way! The brand is accepting the bookings for the same and the launch of the new Sportster S is scheduled for the final quarter of the year 2021.

<a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/harley-davidson/">Harley-Davidson</a> has now commenced the bookings for the second batch of the Pan America 1250. Also, the American motorcycle makers are&nbsp;accepting the bookings for its upcoming 2021 Harley-Davidson Sportster S in India.

Harley-Davidson confirms that the new sporty cruiser will be launched in India by the end of this year. This new sports cruiser from Harley-Davidson will directly rival the 2021&nbsp;Ducati Diavel 1260 and the price is expected to be at par as well. Internationally, the Sportster S costs $14,999, which roughly translates to Rs 10.95 lakh in today’s conversion rate. However, the Sportster S will be brought to India via the CBU route making the price go higher in the range of Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom).

The engine is the same 1,252cc Revolution Max 60-degree V-twin unit that we have seen in the Pan America 1250. But the state of tune is substantially lower when compared to its ADV sibling. The power is marked at 119.3bhp and 127.4Nm, and the six-speed gearbox uses a belt-drive system to forward the power to the wheel.

The electronics safety net includes cornering ABS and traction control based on an IMU. There are five riding modes on offer, three of which are pre-determined and the other two can be customised.

Harley-Davidson’s newest sports cruiser is on its way! The brand is accepting the bookings for the same and the launch of the new Sportster S is scheduled for the final quarter of the year 2021.

The new Sportster S is Harley Davidson’s idea of a road-going sport motorcycle. It borrows its engine from the Pan America 1250 and has key traits that can rival the updated Ducati Diavel 1260.

The Harley Davidson Sportster S has been launched internationally. The motorcycle gets the company’s new Revolution Max engine, which comes with liquid-cooling DOHC (Dual Overhead Camshafts) and VVT (Variable Valve Timing). Despite the new mechanical updates, the Sportster S continues with Harley Davison’s traditional styling. Following are the highlights of the newly launched Harley Davidson Sportster S.

Styling

There is no doubt that it is an unconventional sports bike. In fact, it's more like hyper-cruisers or Sportsters, such as the Ducati Diavel 1260. The headlamp assembly exhibits similar styling as that of the Harley Davidson Pan America 1250. The tail is relatively shorter, which appears to be inspired by the Harley-Davidson XR750 flat tracker. This, in turn, largely exposes the rear wheel, adding to the naked look of the motorcycle.

Engine

The engine is the same 1,252cc Revolution Max 60-degree V-twin motor&nbsp;that powers the Harley Davidson Pan America 1250; however, its state of tune is different in both motorcycles. The power figures of the Sportster S are rated at 119.3bhp and 127.4Nm, which are substantially lower than that of the Pan America 1250. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission, and the power is forwarded to the wheel via a belt-drive system.

Cycle parts

The Sportster S shares its engine with its ADV sibling, but its cycle parts are more in line with street-going motorcycles. The Sportster S gets Showa 43mm fully-adjustable USD forks and a Showa rear pre-load adjust mono-shock. For braking, the Sportster S uses a 320mm rotor with a Brembo radial monoblock four-piston calliper at the front and a 260mm rotor with a two-piston Brembo calliper at the back. The five-spoke alloy wheels are shod with the Dunlop/Harley-Davidson Series GT503 rubber.

Electronics&nbsp;

There is an IMU-based safety net on the new Sportster, which includes cornering ABS and traction control. The motorcycle also gets five riding modes&nbsp;– three preset modes&nbsp;(Sport, Road and Rain) and two customisable modes. An all-new instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity takes the centre stage on the dash.

India launch

Harley Davidson launched the Pan America 1250 in India in April. The new Sportster S is expected to arrive in the country in the coming months. Internationally, the Sportster S is priced at $14,999 ( around Rs 11.20 lakh). Harley Davidson India has not confirmed the launch of the 2021 Sportster S anytime soon, but we reckon that the American motorcycle company will not miss a chance to rival the BS6 Ducati Diavel 1260.

Harley Davidson may have officially shut its India operations last year, but it seems that India continues to be an important market for the brand. Just two months after the global unveiling, Harley Davidson has announced the pricing of the Pan America 1250.

Available in two variants – Standard and Special – the Harley Davidson Pan America 1250 starts at Rs 16.90 lakh. Harley Davidson has already commenced bookings of the motorcycles and deliveries are expected to commence in June

The American bike maker’s first-ever adventure tourer is now on sale in two variants – Standard and Special – priced at Rs 16.90 lakh and Rs 19.99 lakh.

Powering the Pan America is Harley’s 1,252cc Revolution Max V-twin motor that develops 150 horses and 128Nm. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed transmission. Suspension duties are performed by 47mm upside down forks at the front and a monoshock setup at the rear. The Special variant of the Pan America also gets the advantage of a semi-active suspension with an optional adaptive ride height. The adventure tourer also features 5 pre-programmed riding modes – sport, road, rain, off-road and off-road plus in addition to a custom mode. Cornering ABS and cornering traction control come as standard too.

Additionally, the Pan America 1250 Special also comes with a tyre pressure monitoring system, tubeless laced wheels, an aluminium skid plate, knuckle guards, and more. While full-LED lighting comes as standard across all variants, the Special comes fitted with the Daymaker Signature Adaptive Headlamp. Both variants of the Pan America 1250 come equipped with a 6.8-inch touchscreen colour display with Bluetooth connectivity. Aside from all the basic information, this display also allows phone pairing, music controls, navigation and more.

The Harley Davidson Pan America 1250 competes against the BMW R 1250 GS. The latter is currently priced at Rs 20.45 lakh for the Pro variant and Rs 22.35 lakh for the GS Adventure. While the BMW is the only competitor to the Pan America 1250 currently, Ducati is expected to bring in the Multistrada V4 later this year.

It’s been just over a month since Harley Davidson took the wraps off the all-new Pan America, and it has already been listed on the company’s India website. In fact, the official website also reveals that the Adventure Tourer will make its way to Indian shores some time in June 2021.

The American bike maker has listed both the variants of the Pan America on the official website – the Standard and the Special. The former will go on sale in two colour options – Vivid Black and River Rock Grey. In addition to Vivid Black, the Special will also be offered in Gauntlet Grey Metallic, Deadwood Green and the signature Baja Orange with the Stone washed white pearl highlights.

Mechanically, both variants will be powered by Harley’s new Revolution Max 1250 engine that is good for 148bhp and 127Nm. This engine comes paired with a six-speed transmission that is assisted by a slipper clutch. The Pan America also features a six-axis IMU with customisable riding modes, a 6.8-inch touchscreen display with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation. Other features on the Special include a semi-active front and rear suspension, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, steering dampers, adaptive headlamp, adaptive ride height, and more.

Harley Davidson has already introduced the Pan America in the Thai market where it is priced starting 8,99,000 baht (roughly Rs 21 lakh). Expect the Pan America to be priced somewhat in the same range when it lands here in June. The Pan America will compete against the likes of the might BMW R 1250 GS.
