If you think CNG cars are simply more economical to drive than conventional petrol or diesel-powered cars, then think again! With Maruti Suzuki’s S-CNG technology, the gains go beyond efficiency. Here’s a look at what makes Maruti’s S-CNG-powered cars front runners in terms of performance and safety.

With petrol & diesel prices touching all-time highs, it makes more & more sense to switch to CNG powered cars that are, in comparison, much more economical to run. However, while CNG vehicles do not need a formal introduction as they are very much popular in today’s time & age, what most customers do not realize is that the gains of using a CNG-powered vehicle go beyond better efficiency and lower running costs. This is where Maruti Suzuki’s S-CNG technology comes into play. Factory-fitted S-CNG technology by Maruti Suzuki is integrated from the ground up on the factory floor and offers better performance and enhanced safety. So, here’s a look at what makes the S-CNG technology superior in terms of performance and safety.

Solid Performance

A key highlight of Maruti Suzuki’s factory-fitted S-CNG kit is the ‘Intelligent Injection System.’ Combined with dual interdependent ECUs, these components communicate with each other to maintain an optimum air-fuel ratio at the time of combustion. This results not only in enhanced, consistent performance but also improved fuel efficiency. And it’s not just about optimising the fuel-air ratio.

All S-CNG-equipped cars also feature a re-tuned suspension setup, chassis optimization and recalibrated braking to further improve performance and offer better drivability across different terrains. Of course, to ensure class-leading durability of the gas-powered drivetrain, numerous top-shelf parts, such as valve seats in the cylinder head, are used that ensure the maximum lifespan of the engine.

Enhanced Safety

When it comes to enhanced safety and durability, Maruti’s S-CNG technology is renowned for using a corrosion-resistant and leak-proof pipeline structure. This has been achieved by using stainless steel pipes, with patented Ferrule joints, across the CNG pipeline. On the wiring front, the entire electrical system, that is, the wiring harness present inside the car is an integrated system that eliminates any temporary joints or the chances of tampering. As a result, any chances of a short-circuit are eliminated.

There’s more on offer when it comes to preemptive safety. Maruti’s S-CNG cars are also equipped with a micro-switch, which ensures that the car does not start when it’s being refuelled at a CNG station. Speaking of refuelling, an NGV (Natural Gas Vehicle) nozzle (that also features a non-return valve mechanism), enables faster and leak-proof CNG refilling.

To address the concerns of customers who remain sceptical about the bi-fuel system in a CNG car, there’s also a dual solenoid system that makes sure the gas is released only when the car switches to CNG mode.

Lastly, all Maruti Suzuki S-CNG cars are evaluated and tested for crashworthiness and durability with the entire CNG System in place, ensuring the body shell’s integrity and strength in case of any untoward incident.

Thus, with so many benefits over and above the lower running costs, it’s quite hard not to choose Maruti Suzuki’s S-CNG technology over any other in the market.

Maruti’s S-CNG product portfolio consists of the Alto, WagonR, Ertiga, S-Presso, Eeco, and the recently-launched new-generation Celerio.
