The last few weeks in Delhi have been quite miserable. The winter hit its brutal peak, and temperatures were low. The skies were grey and thick fog had become the norm. Now, while some from the hotter parts of India might romanticise the cold weather, the reality of being stuck in it for weeks is far from enjoyable – in fact, it can be downright miserable. However, amid this extreme discomfort, the excellent climate control system of the Seltos was my saving grace.

The cold interior of the car every morning made me appreciate features like heated steering wheels and understand why people hate metal gear knobs. I usually set the cabin temperature to twenty-three degrees, which would transform the Seltos’ interior into a warm and toasty environment, at least for that half-hour drive, giving me respite from the misery. Stepping out of the car later, however, was another chilly ordeal altogether.

Setting aside the complaints about the cold weather, the Seltos remains one of the best-driving SUVs in its segment. The added power from its 1.5-litre turbocharged engine ensures excellent acceleration, making maintaining three-digit speeds a breeze. It also means that if you’re on the highway and driving fast, the engine runs at a much more relaxed rpm compared to the previous engine. However, the problem with having an engine which is tuned for enthusiasts is that you tend to drive more aggressively and, consequently, get reduced fuel efficiency.

Another highlight of the Seltos is its well-designed interior, featuring modern touches and a classy aesthetic. And, of course, true to Kia’s reputation, the Seltos comes loaded with standard equipment to the gills, which really makes it a special place to spend time in.
