Honda Accord Highlights
The Indian market has been familiar with the Honda Accord from the last three generations. In its 2016 guise, the Honda Accord gets hybrid power, with no option of a petrol-only model. The brand has done this in order to manifest its technology prowess and also help bring down excise duty on hybrid cars. Also, the Accord comes in as a full import. As a result, the Honda Accord price is a deterrent for its sales in India aren’t as high as that of its predecessors.
From the outside, the Accord looks pretty sleek, thanks to the sharp lines. Up-front, it boasts of a stylish, angular bumper, a large chrome bar for the grille and what looks particularly attractive are those wide, crystal-effect like headlamp clusters. Also, the raised ridges on either side of the bonnet add some muscle to the design. From the side, there's a strong shoulder line that flows from the front wheel arch and slowly tapers off as it reaches the tail section, and the dual-tone alloys look snazzy. At the rear, the raked windscreen has a nice flow to it, while the tail sports elongated tail lights with a chrome strip in between, and on the sculpted bumper. There's even a nice, sporty boot lid spoiler behind. The 2016 Accord is built on a shorter wheelbase, and has been done to ensure the car is more agile.
The 2016 Honda Accord variants are as follows: Hybrid. Features include Active Noise Cancellation in the cabin, remote control engine start, 7-inch touchscreen audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rain-sensing wipers, dual-zone climate control, electronic sunroof, LED headlamps, parking camera, remote pre-cooling and pre-heating function and electrically adjustable front seats. On the safety front, it comes equipped with ABS, 6 airbags, traction control, stability control and lane watch assist.
Inside the Honda Accord new model, the instrument cluster gets a blue hue along with two large screens. And there's a layering across the centre console that makes the cabin a very futuristic place to be seated in. A lot of details ooze character. Space is never an issue; there's loads of it in the front and rear, despite the shorter wheelbase. Legroom and headroom have improved over the older car, and the leather-lined, double-stitched seats provide good cushioning and great back support, with a certain amount of firmness to it that feels perfect. Overall fit and finish of materials have improved over the previous model. The quality, in general, is not a match to the similarly-priced Camry, wherein, the Honda Accord on-road price, yet again, proves to be a deterrent.
Engine Specifications & Performance
The Honda Accord Hybrid is powered by a two-motor hybrid system. With the combination of a 2.0-litre, i-VTEC Atkinson Cycle engine with two electric motors, the car produces a peak combined output of 212bhp and 315Nm of torque. The Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive system has three operating modes: Hybrid Drive, EV Drive and Engine Drive. Dab on the throttle, and the motor springs to life. In EV mode, the Accord can reach a range of 2km, after which the engine comes on. In Sport mode, the motor pulls rather effortlessly. The engine is responsive, and cruises up to good speeds without any hesitation. The Accord accelerates quickly, but it's best driven at a relaxed pace. Its steering is well weighted and the car stays planted at high speeds. Also, the ride quality is slightly on the softer side.
The Honda Accord Hybrid's ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure is rated at 23.1kmpl for the Hybrid variant.
