Good stability at high speed

<p>During the test drive, I felt that the body of the Brezza is quite well balanced but it could certainly do with broader tyres. When I purchased my car, I had new tyres installed and that turned out to be a very good decision as it has given the car more stability at higher speeds. Other than this, the car has been very satisfying and faultless.</p>


Engine is quite lazy

<p>It is quite obvious that a car of Brezza’s weight and dimensions should at least have upwards of 100 bhp or so to give it a good performance. Sadly, the car is let down by its engine. It is just not tuned to provide an enthusiastic drive. In terms of looks and features, the car is quite good.</p>


Decent ground clearance helps

<p>Indian conditions favour the SUV more and that is where the Brezza really shines. It is indeed a boon in semi-urban conditions thanks to its ample ground clearance. Also, the seats are big and comfortable which makes crossing rough patches even easier.</p>

The engine itself makes 140bhp and 226Nm of torque. The setup sends drive to all four wheels through an electric all-wheel-drive system. Combined output is around 301bhp, and an e-CVT gearbox handles power delivery. It is the same system used in the Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid, so performance and efficiency figures stay in line with that SUV.</p><p>

First launched in 2015, the Baleno hatchback received its first facelift in 2019, followed by a second-generation model in 2022. Last year, Maruti Suzuki enhanced its safety&nbsp;with six airbags across all variants. Now, another significant update is on the horizon for the Baleno in India, and we’ve detailed some of the key changes to expect in the new version. </p><h2><strong>Maruti Suzuki Baleno: What to Expect?</strong></h2><p>The changes are most likely to be purely cosmetic and feature-focused.     For about a decade or so, the Indian government has been actively promoting the shift from internal combustion to electric power. They’ve tried to encourage – and some might even say force – the market towards mass EV adoption through a range of measures. These include tax exemptions for consumers, incentives for companies establishing new EV manufacturing plants, and regulatory mandates such as requiring commercial vehicles to be fully electric – for instance, three-wheeler EV rickshaws, which are now quite common across the country.</p>

<p>However, the push for this switch in the passenger vehicle segment has met with limited success. According to recent statistics, EV adoption in this segment is around 4%, which is minuscule given that the Indian market now sees about 45 lakh vehicle sales a year.</p><p>Now, this could change with the entry of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara in the Indian market. Manufactured in India, this new EV has the potential to significantly boost overall EV sales in the country. Why? Well, consider the following facts. Maruti Suzuki sells about 20 lakh vehicles annually, making it the undisputed market leader. More importantly, the company’s extensive dealership network – over 4,000 touchpoints, including both Arena and Nexa outlets – gives it far greater reach than any other car manufacturer in the country. And if that’s not enough, Maruti Suzuki is now investing about ₹250 crore in establishing 1 lakh charging points by 2030 to further push EV adoption.</p><p>

<p>A couple of months ago, we drove the e Vitara in the UK and were left thoroughly impressed by its performance. But now that we’ve driven it here, we can judge how it performs in Indian conditions.</p>





<h2>Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Design and Interior Impressions</h2>

<p>In terms of design, the e Vitara is unlike any other product in Maruti Suzuki’s line-up. While it does share some styling cues with the brand’s overall design language, it still looks unique. The first thing you notice is the SUV’s assertive stance, further accentuated by the squared-off wheel arches and those big 18-inch wheels. The front and rear designs are also quite different, but in a good way – they’re well executed and add to the overall appeal of the EV.</p><p>

<p>One detail that I particularly noticed was the relatively high shoulder line, which results in a fairly small glasshouse. The interior has a mostly fresh, unique design language, although it’s quite evident that it uses a few components from the existing Maruti Suzuki parts bin. But then, that’s hardly surprising in a world marked by synergies and economies of scale in search of ever-increasing profits. What’s genuinely impressive, however, is the space management – the SUV’s interior feels airy and very spacious, helped in no small part by its pretty large 2,700mm wheelbase.</p><p>The front seats are very comfortable, although from the driver’s seat, you do have a sense of sitting a bit too high. Some of the unique elements include the new steering wheel, which looks premium and feels solid to the touch, and the new centre console, featuring a new gearshift knob that both looks and works well.</p><p>

<p>In terms of features, the e Vitara will be the second Maruti Suzuki vehicle to feature Level 2 ADAS, after the Victoris, and seven airbags, including an airbag for the driver’s knees.</p>

<h2>Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Range, Battery and Performance</h2>

<p>Now, let’s talk about the aspect that matters the most in an EV – range. The e Vitara we drove was equipped with the larger 61kWh battery pack. A smaller 49kWh version will also be offered at launch. Maruti Suzuki claims a range of 543km (ARAI certified) on a single charge with the larger 61kWh battery pack.</p><p>With the 61kWh battery pack, the front-mounted motor produces 172bhp and 193Nm of torque, and the e Vitara has a claimed 0–100km/h time of 8.9 seconds. At launch, both battery pack versions will be offered only with a front-wheel-drive setup, though the platform is capable of supporting all-wheel drive as well.</p><p>

<p>On paper, these numbers may appear modest, especially in an EV landscape obsessed with insane torque and power figures, but our time with the car proved that they are more than sufficient. On the road, the acceleration is more than adequate and linear. If you want a faster throttle response, you can switch to Sport mode, and if you prioritise range, Eco mode is the way to go. You can also vary the regen modes, with the most extreme setting enabling single-pedal driving.</p><h2>Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Ride Comfort and Real-World Usability</h2>

<p>The e Vitara’s ride quality on Indian roads was a particular point of curiosity for us, and I must say that we were once again quite impressed by what we experienced. Sure, you always feel the weight of the car when hitting sharp bumps, but overall, it’s quite controlled and comfortable.</p><p>

<p>The e Vitara is a tempting package. With the larger 61kWh battery pack, I think a real-world range of about 380km on a single charge is easily achievable, which should be enough for most customers in urban settings with access to charging at home or at the workplace.</p>

<p>Maruti Suzuki’s planned charger network across the country will further ensure that the SUV will be attractive to a broader customer base than any rival EV on sale in the country. That said, the key factor would be the pricing of the e Vitara. The MG Windsor has been India’s best-selling EV in 2025, and I think Maruti Suzuki will price the e Vitara aggressively enough to draw potential Windsor Pro buyers into its own showrooms. However, this is all speculation for now, and we will have to wait until the prices are officially announced.</p><p>

Top Maruti Suzuki CNG Cars in 2025: Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Victoris and More

<p><em>With the Vitara Brezza, Maruti Suzuki turns its attention towards the hottest segment in the market – the compact SUV space. Already, Ford has responded by reducing prices of the EcoSport. So, should its competitors be worried? We drive one to find out.</em></p>

<p>The SUV space has been receiving serious attention from virtually all carmakers of late – not just in India, but globally as well. Car buyers today seem to have a strong preference for SUV’s over more traditional body types, so it’s become a race amongst companies to feed this demand and come up with the next big success story. And this trend is no different in India. Indian consumers have demonstrated a voracious appetite for SUVs, and with the Vitara Brezza, Maruti is looking to get a foothold in the sub-four metre SUV space.</p>

<p>But before we get into details of the Brezza, there’s one very interesting aspect that needs to be highlighted. You see, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/">Maruti Suzuki</a> has been present in the Indian market for over three decades now. And, over the years, it’s built up a very strong R&amp;D arm in India. But, before the Vitara Brezza, the Indian R&amp;D department had never completely developed a vehicle for the Indian market. However, that changes with the Brezza – as this car has been developed from the ground up by a team of Indian engineers led by Executive Director of Engineering, C V Raman. We had an extensive chat with him about the process followed by him and his team, and he was glad to point out that they were given complete control over the project – including choosing the platform, drivetrain, and design of the vehicle. This is an important milestone in Indian automotive engineering on two fronts, one is the fact that a multinational company has allowed this level of decision making freedom to the local arm of a company, and, two, as we drive the car, we get the chance to evaluate just how well the engineers have been able to set up the car for Indian conditions.</p>

<p>Now, on to the design – at first glance, the Brezza is a good looking car. And, despite the vehicle measuring under 4-metres, the designers have managed to get the proportions right. Moreover, the big chrome grille certainly gets a lot of attention. In fact, as we drove on the roads of Pune, the Brezza gathered a lot of interest from onlookers. The square wheel arches, paired with the 16-inch wheels gave it a strong stance, and the contrasting roof and mirrors – available as an option on the range-topping ZDi+ version – are a nice touch. And it suits this yellow hue particularly well. This customisation is a unique option that has not yet been offered to customers in the mass market segment in India – and I think that younger buyers will particularly appreciate the sense of style and individualisation it offers them. However, I still feel that the styling of the Brezza is a tad subdued and could have been even more aggressive. It seems that the designers have taken a somewhat safe approach, and tried not to polarise opinions.</p>

<p>The interiors of the Vitara Brezza are quite impressive too. Barring a couple of components – such as the grab handles – the interior is quite well finished, and quality levels are good. Given the wide track of the car, interior room is also quite good – with three abreast at the back fitting reasonably comfortably. The other highlights include the equipment levels, which are simply phenomenal. The ZDi+ version that we were driving comes standard with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Cruise Control, Climate Control, Auto headlights, Rain sensing wipers, and even an option to select the colour of the centre dials – which has five options to choose from. In fact, the Brezza offers a single airbag as standard on all versions, and even ABS is available as an option on lower trim versions. And I must say that it’s good to see that manufacturers are now paying serious attention towards road safety in India. The touchscreen entertainment system, which comes fitted with Apple CarPlay, works quite well and is a breeze to use. However, as with most touchscreen systems, it does have an Achilles heel – which is that the screen is difficult to read in direct sunlight. Adding to the equipment levels, and therefore the appeal, are the practical touches to the interiors too – such as the large door pockets, 60:40 split in the rear seat, cooled glove box, and concealed seat undertray. Maruti certainly seems to have taken this page out of Hyundai’s book. Competition is a beautiful thing, and its customers who benefit by getting cars that are loaded to the gills.</p>

<p>The Brezza is currently available only with the massively popular 1.3-litre diesel unit – though a petrol version with the 1.0-litre turbocharged engine is expected later in the year. In this trim, the engine offers 89bhp and 200Nm of torque. Paired with a five-speed manual gearbox – the only gearbox currently available – the Brezza feels peppy and the engine provides very good mid-range response. However, at low rpm, there is discernible turbo lag – which can be a bit annoying in traffic. The NVH levels, though, are well controlled and the Brezza feels quite refined. On the road, it exudes a feeling of solidity. The suspension has been setup very well – not only does it offer good ride comfort, but it also feels very stable at high speeds. With the high ground clearance, tackling bad roads is an easy task – and the suspension handles broken roads with aplomb. The electric steering, while devoid of feel, does have a nice heft to it and responds well. In terms of overall road manners, it seems that the engineers at Maruti Suzuki have managed to find a well balanced set up between ride and handling with the Brezza.</p>

<p>Overall, the Vitara Brezza offers a very strong package with a combination of good design, practical interiors, excellent equipment levels, and aggressive pricing. There are a few shortcomings in the product, such as the turbo lag and a few pieces of plastic that feel low rent, but, keeping in mind the overall package, those few compromises certainly aren’t a deal breaker. Maruti’s competitors, then, will certainly be feeling the heat. Not only does the Brezza have the novelty factor in its favour, but it provides an attractive product at good value. Add to that the brand value of Maruti Suzuki, and you’ve got a sure winner on your hands. The only thing that remains to be seen is whether Maruti Suzuki can keep up with the demand when deliveries start at the end of March.</p>
