BMW has recalled 7,20,000 cars worldwide due to an electrical issue. BMW said that the problem had caused one minor crash in Canada, with no injuries. Though BMW has not yet issued a statement, the the American road safety body NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) confirmed that the recall is due to a faulty battery cable connection with the fuse box.

This faulty connection might deteriorate over time stalling the vehicle, thus increasing the chances of a crash. The recall affects various versions of the 1-series (model years 2008-2012), 3-series (model years 2007-2011) and the Z-4 sports car (model years 2009-2011). The affected vehicles were sold in US,Canada,Japan and South Africa, but its home market,Germany, the rest of Europe and even India are not involved in this recall. The German company recalling some 5.05 lakh cars in the US, 65,000 in Canada, 1 lakh in Japan and 50,000 in South Africa.
