The ongoing sales slowdown in the Indian automotive industry (admittedly, a bad sign for the manufacturers) does have a silver lining after all. For whom? Well, for customers, of course – carmakers are going out of their way to offer some lucrative deals on all kinds of models to clear up their inventories. Add to this the fast-approaching BS-VI implementation deadline, and you might just find yourself in a really good position to get a new car purchase deal with some hefty discounts. So, here's a look at our top discount picks for the month.

Toyota

Our attention this month was caught by the deals & discounts running on the Toyota Yaris. The Yaris, ever since its launch, hasn't really been a volume-driver for Toyota, and going by its sales figures over the past few months, it has attracted less than 400 customers each month. In June 2019, the figures for the Yaris hit a new low, with just 121 units dispatched to the dealers. So, it's no surprise that some dealers still possess the MY18 stock of the Yaris. On the MY18 units, Toyota is offering cash discounts of up to ₹ 1.25 lakh. Those eligible for the corporate schemes can enjoy an additional ₹ 50,000 benefit. Those willing to opt for an exchange offer are eligible for an extra ₹ 2,000 benefit, over and above the cash discount. There's also a loyalty discount (for existing Toyota customers) of the same value.

The MY19 units of the Yaris are also up for some discounts this month. The MY19 units are eligible for ₹ 30,000 cash discount upfront, coupled with a corporate discount of the same value, and a ₹ 10,000 exchange/loyalty bonus.

Some other models, like the Corolla Altis, are also bearing the brunt of the slowdown. June 2019 marked a new low for the Altis as well, with just 90 units dispatched to the dealers. As a result, Toyota is offering a ₹ 90,000 cash discount & a ₹ 50,000 corporate bonus on it. The Altis is also up for a ₹ 30,000 exchange benefit.

Meanwhile, Toyota's evergreen model, the Fortuner, carries a ₹ 1 lakh exchange bonus. However, it is applicable only on exchanging an old model of the Fortuner.

Jeep

Jeep Compass Motion

Jeep will very soon have its second model for India in place – the all-new Wrangler. The move comes at the right time as the company's frontrunner, the Compass, seems to be going through a bit of a rough patch over the past few months. Compared to the 1,441 units sold in March 2019, Jeep could only manage to move 791 units in June! So, in order to revive sales, Jeep has some hefty cash discounts on offer this month across the Compass model range. There's a ₹ 50,000 cash discount on the MY19 units, whereas the MY18 units have a bigger discount running, in the range of ₹ 1.25 lakh – ₹ 1.50 lakh. Plus, Jeep is also offering additional benefits in the form of insurance premium discounts of up to ₹ 50,000 (on the list price quote).

Hyundai

Hyundai Tucson Exterior Front End

Some Hyundai models are being offered with attractive cash discounts & exchange benefits this month. The biggest cash discount on offer is with the Elantra (₹ 1.25 lakh), along with a ₹ 75,000 exchange bonus. The Hyundai Xcent & Grand i10 are both on sale with cash discounts of ₹ 60,000. The exchange bonuses on the Xcent and the Grand i10 are worth ₹ 35,000 and ₹ 30,000, respectively. The capable Tucson SUV is also on sale this month with a cash discount of ₹ 25,000 & an exchange bonus of ₹ 75,000. Interestingly, each Hyundai model (not counting the Kona Electric) managed to fetch four-figure sales number in June 2019, except the Elantra and the Tucson, which could only manage 60 & 63 units, respectively.

Renault

Renault Duster front view

The pre-facelift Renault Duster is being offered with a cash discount of ₹ 50,000 and an exchange benefit of the same value. The discount is applicable on the remaining units of the pre-facelift version, keeping in mind that a facelift model of the Duster was launched by Renault last month.
