Volkswagen revealed at the ongoing CES that it will embed ChatGPT into its cars equipped with IDA voice assistant by the second quarter of 2024. With ChatGPT integrated into Volkswagen's IDA in-car voice assistant, drivers will have more simpler and easier conversations with their vehicles. Saying 'Hello IDA' or tapping a button on the steering wheel will enable the feature, allowing users to control the infotainment and climate control systems among other automobile functions. Additionally, the chatbot will be able to respond to questions on general knowledge. The new feature will be accessible for use on several Volkswagen cars, including the ID.7, ID.4, ID.5, ID.3, the new Tiguan, Passat, and Golf. While there is no official word on when it will launch in India, the feature will first be introduced in Europe. There are rumours that discussions are on to make the functionality available to clients in the United States as well. To know more about this new functionality, let's take a look.

According to Volkswagen, to use this new function, customers won't need to download any additional apps, register for a new account, or install ChatGPT. You can speak 'Hello IDA' or touch a button on the steering wheel to start the voice assistance. Moreover, the company claimed that inquiries and responses would be immediately deleted and that OpenAI would not be given access to vehicle data to ensure the maximum level of data protection.

We already informed you that drivers will find it easier to communicate with their cars owing to the IDA voice assistant, driven by ChatGPT. It may be employed for responding to general knowledge questions and to oversee standard features like infotainment, navigation, and more. The carmaker claims that in the years to come, the functionality will be able to do much more, including enhancing discussions, answering queries, getting vehicle-specific information, and more, all while keeping hands free.
