Just two days after Nissan India officially dropped a teaser image of the Datsun redi-GO, they have now revealed that the 2020 Kicks will come with a new 1.3-litre turbo petrol heart. For the uninitiated, this the same HR13 DDT heart that Renault showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 in February. This powerplant has been developed by Daimler in association with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. This engine also does duty in the entry-level Meredes-Benz models like the A-Class and the GLA. Moving on to the specifications, the turbo petrol motor will be good for 153bhp and 254Nm. This engine will come mated to Nissan’s X-tronic CVT. Interestingly, Nissan says that this engine also uses the cylinder coating technology used in the GT-R and that should help improve efficiency. That being said, the Japanese carmaker hasn’t shared any fuel efficiency figures as yet.

The updated Kicks will sport minor cosmetic changes on the outside and a few updates to the interior as well. The Kicks has always been a well-equipped car, expect the 2020 iteration to flaunt a longer list of features.

Just like before, the Kicks will continue to compete against the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and the likes. This update makes the Kicks the most powerful car in its class. Segment leader Kia Seltos, and its cousin Hyundai Creta, come with 1.4-litre turbo petrol that produces 136bhp and 242Nm. As of now, Nissan hasn’t revealed when the 2020 Kicks will be launched, but we expect it to be soon after the lockdown lifts. Aside from the Kicks, the same motor will also be used in the updated Renault Duster that is expected to be launched soon.
