Say hello to Volkswagen's answer to the Tesla Model 3!

Volkswagen’s answer to the Tesla Model 3 is still in the pipeline, but the company recently gave us a glimpse of what the car would look like. The ID Aero electric sedan will initially go on sale in China, followed by other prominent global markets. Following the ID 3, ID 4 SUV, and the ID 5 SUV, the new ID Aero is expected to be called ID 6 in production form.

The concept that was previewed features a 77kWh battery, which the German manufacturer claims will provide the ID Aero with a range of up to 616km on the WLTP test cycle. Apart from that, more battery options, including 52kWh units, will also be on the cards.

The company is yet to reveal details regarding the powertrain, but we expect the car to be powered by either a single motor at the rear wheel or two motors with 4WD. The total power output is expected to be in the range of 181bhp to 296bhp.

Volkswagen is expected to introduce the ID 4 electric SUV in India first. Its sister brand Skoda has already commenced the testing of the Enyaq, which, like the former, is also based on the company’s MEB platform.
