With seven new launches lined up for 2016, awareness and popularity of the Volvo brand should gain good momentum

Swedish luxury car maker, Volvo has announced that the company intends to launch seven new models in India during the 2016 calendar year. The luxury car market in India has experienced consistent growth despite overall slowdowns in the market and holds good promise for the future. Not to be left behind from its German and British rivals, Volvo is aggressively targeting the Indian luxury car market as well.

Volvo S90 teaser

Volvo will be stepping into the full sized luxury saloon segment in India with its all-new S90 luxury sedan. The new Volvo S90 is expected to share a lot with the XC90 SUV. Some of the highlights would be the Thor’s hammer head lamps, interiors, the large central infotainment screen, as well as the same 2.0 litre diesel engine.

Volvo XC90 Excellence

Next up is the XC90 itself that will be introduced in a new flagship Excellence trim that is aimed at rivaling flagship luxury SUVs. The Volvo XC90 Excellence will get a four seat layout with reclineable bucket seats at the rear featuring ventilation and massage functions. Other luxuries will include individual touch screens for rear passengers, retractable rear tray tables, heated and cooled cup holders, as well as a refrigerator. A subtle exterior distinguishing factor for the Excellence trim will be chrome detailing around the side windows of the car.

Volvo XC90 R-design

The Volvo XC90 R-design will also be making it to our shores with styling enhancements over the standard model. These will include sportier bumpers, wheels, revised wheel archs, silver colour ORVM casings, roof rails and twin exhausts.

Volvo S60 Cross Country

Crossovers seem to be the craze among Indian car makers currently and Volvo will tap into the concept with its S60 Cross Country that has a raised suspension setup with 65mm more ground clearance than the standard S60 sedan. Styling enhancements include body cladding around the lower section of the car with front and rear faux skid plates. More importantly the Volvo S60 Cross Country comes with an all-wheel drive system.

Volvo S 60 Polestar

Another addition to the Volvo S60 range will be in the form of the Polestar model. The performance oriented Volvo S60 Polestar will feature 3.0 litre, six cylinder petrol engine developing 345 bhp of maximum power. Styling enhancements include sportier bumpers, different wheel rims and sports seats.

The Volvo V40 and V40 Cross Country models will get a face-lift as well. While they will remain the same mechanically as the current models, styling changes will come in the form of new head lamps, restyled tail lamps, a new front grille and new front and rear bumpers.

Volvo cars are slowly becoming more and more recognized in their segments in India. The new XC90 was completely booked out even before the launch of the vehicle in the country. With a range of new model launches in 2016, awareness of the brand should gain good momentum.
