Comet, ZS EV, Hector and More Help MG Motor India Record 18% YoY Sales Growth in CY2023

MG asserts that electric vehicle sales made up roughly 25% of total revenue in 2023. The automaker currently offers two electric vehicles in India: the Comet and the ZS EV.

In contrast to 2022, MG Motor India reported a substantial increase in retail sales in CY2023. It delivered 56,902 units in total, representing an 18% year-on-year increase in 2023. According to the firm, electric vehicle sales accounted for approximately 25% of overall revenue. The automaker's current electric vehicle models available in India include the ZS EV and the Comet. MG claims to have sold over 20,000 EVs in the country so far, proving the high demand for its electric vehicle lineup. In terms of monthly sales, the company sold 4,400 units in December, up 13% year-over-year (YoY) from 3,899 vehicles delivered during the same period in 2022. Among other things in 2023, MG had a significant change in ownership when the JSW Group, through a joint venture with its Chinese parent SAIC, acquired a 35% share in the company in India.

Given that MG's overall sales in 2023 were significantly bolstered by electric vehicles, let's quickly explore the key characteristics of the company's two EVs: the ZS EV and the Comet in India.

MG ZS EV, Comet: Some Specifications 

With its 50.3kWh battery and electric motor, the ZS EV generates 175bhp and 280Nm and claims 461 kilometres of driving range. It has three variants — Excitement, Exclusive, and Exclusive Pro, and offers three paint options —Glaze Red, Aurora Silver, Starry Black, and Candy White. In terms of amenities, the electric car has a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a panoramic sunroof, a 7-inch digital driver's display, and more. It also has a wireless phone charger and connected car technology. When it comes to safety, the e-SUV comes furnished with six airbags, a 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, etc. 

Another electric MG product — Comet, is offered in three variants — Pace, Play, and Plush, as well as, two dual-tone and three monotone colour options. With a 17.3kWh battery and an electric motor, the electric hatchback offers a maximum power rating of 41bhp and a peak torque of 110Nm. Its driving range stands at 230 kilometres on a single full charge. A 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, TPMS, a reverse parking camera, i-Smart connected car technology, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat anchors are among the features.

MG ZS EV, Comet: Pricing

The Comet EV's price ranges from Rs 7.98 lakh to Rs 9.98 lakh, while the ZS EV, its older electric sibling is priced between Rs 22.88 lakh and Rs 26 lakh. These prices are ex-showroom.
