Since its launch in July last year, the Hyundai Exter SUV has maintained a consistent sales volume in the Indian market, indicating its ever-growing popularity. The model retails in India at a price bracket ranging between Rs 6.13 lakh and Rs 10.28 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom figures. As far as the variants are concerned, interested customers can choose from a pool of seven trims: EX, EX (O), S, S (O), SX, SX (O), and SX (O) Connect. Buyers who wish to reserve the model in March will have to wait up to 4 months for delivery. A while back, this period spanned roughly 10 months. Furthermore, the anticipated waiting duration for the entry-level EX and EX (O), as well as the top-of-the-line petrol manual SX (O) Connect models, is about 3 to 4 months and 1 to 1.5 months, respectively. Meanwhile, all other models, including the CNG trims, have a standard waiting period of 2 to 2.5 months.

Hyundai Exter SUV: Competition Check

As for the market rivals, the Exter encounters stiff competition in the sub-4m entry-SUV market from the Tata Punch. On top of that, it goes against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, the Nissan Magnite, the Renault Kiger, the Citroen C3, and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.

Hyundai Exter SUV: Engine and Transmission Options

The SUV is powered by a 1.2-litre Kappa four-cylinder naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine that delivers 82bhp of maximum power at 6,000rpm and a peak torque output of 113.8Nm at 4,000rpm. Transmission duties are taken care of by either a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic gearbox.

In CNG mode, the Exter puts out 95.2Nm of maximum torque and 68bhp of power. The transmission option on this version is a manual gearbox. Moreover, all other petrol units, except for the base EX model, come with both MT and AMT gearbox options; the CNG version is offered with both S and SX mid-spec models.

The ARAI-certified mileage of the Hyundai model stands at 19.4km/l for the manual version and 19.2km/l for the automatic version. It achieves 27.1km/kg of fuel economy with the factory-installed CNG unit.

Hyundai Exter SUV: Exterior and Interior

Interestingly, the Grand i10 Nios and the Exter share a chassis, but the latter looks different. The frontal design of the SUV comprises a black mesh radiator grille, projector headlights, and an H-shaped LED daytime running light. It also has alloy wheels with a diamond-cut pattern and black side panels. Meanwhile, the styling elements that distinguish the back end are the integrated roof spoiler, the shark-fin antenna, the rear wiper, the H-shaped LED taillamps, and the tailboard with the slanted rear glass.
