Nissan Motor Company has reported selling more than 10 lakh electric vehicles across the globe. The Japanese automaker sold 3.20 lakh examples in the European market - which made up a one-third share of its global sales, followed by 2.30 lakh units sold each in China and Japan. In the North American market, Nissan sold 2.10 lakh EVs, while the rest 10,000 were delivered to other regions of the world. The best-selling electric vehicle, the Leaf, has been on sale since it made its public appearance in December 2010. It took about 13 years for the car to surpass the 6.50 lakh units sales milestone worldwide. The Nissan Leaf has a presence in around 50 international markets, including the U.S., Japan, and Europe. And the model continues to strengthen its position in the mass market in terms of growth, buzz, and demand. Besides, the Leaf has won several prestigious awards, including European Car of the Year and World Car of the Year.
Next up is the Nissan Ariya. The all-electric crossover also helped the carmaker drive its EV sales. Launched in 2022, the Ariya flaunts Nissan's latest design language and technologies, such as e-40RCE all-wheel control and ProPILOT 2.0 advanced driver support. The Ariya EV comes with two different powertrains in international markets – a single-motor RWD and a twin-motor 4WD. While they have the same torque output, the two battery packs – 63kWh and 87kWh – produce 217bhp and 242bhp. Notably, the top-spec models with the 87kWh battery pack offer 306bhp and 600Nm, along with a 513km of driving range.
Following the crossover is the Sakura - the company's first EV in the Japanese mini-vehicle segment. The mini vehicle with powerful acceleration and an elegant interior managed to fetch 50,000 bookings.
Nissan Future Plans
Besides, Nissan has plans to launch 19 electric vehicles by the financial year 2023, under its Nissan Ambition 2030 long-term vision. The company's plans also extend to introducing EVs powered by in-house all-solid-state batteries by fiscal year 2018.
