The current president of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) Vicky Chandhok (right, in picture) has announced his decision to not contest next year's elections for the post, thereby ending his tenure at the helm of Indian motor sport's representative at the International Automobile Federation (FIA).

Chandhok was president of the FMSCI from 2005 till present, with the exception of the period of 2008 to 2009.

After being elected as president in 2010, Chandhok won his re-election bid in 2012 as well.

Chandhok was one of the central figures during the dispute between the Motorsport Association of India (MAI) and the FMSCI (from which the MAI had broken off) to become the sole representative for India at the FIA, which was a requirement for India to host its first ever Formula 1 race.

Chandhok is the father of Karun, who became India's second ever F1 driver when he made his debut with the Hispania Racing Team as teammate to Bruno Senna in 2010.

It has been announced that Shrikant Karani and current FMSCI vice-president R Bharat Raj will be the two candidates contesting the elections that are to take place at the FMSCI's annual general meeting, which is taking place today.
