F1 Hungarian Grand Prix: Red Bull's RB19 Sidepod Upgrade Unveiled at Hungaroring

At the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2023, Red Bull debuted their second significant sidepod update of the season. This new iteration is a major upgrade over the revised package shown at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in April, which featured a shorter and larger cooling intake.

Red Bull Racing may be having a great season so far, but the Austrian racing team isn't resting on their laurels. The RB19, the finest vehicle in Formula 1 in the 2023 grid has shown off its latest improvements this weekend in Budapest. Before the first practice session in Hungary, onlookers were shocked to see that Red Bull had completely redesigned their sidepods. The drastic difference between the old and new versions sparked a lot of enthusiasm in the Formula 1 world. Red Bull's strong performance in the 2023 season has almost allowed them to capture the constructor championship titles statistically. The RB19 will most likely have even more updated parts after the summer break. Given that next year's rules will be very identical to this one, this is on purpose. The 2024 Formula 1 car should logically benefit from any new development made in 2023.

The updated sidepods, which were first rumoured to be similar to McLaren's or Alpine's take on Red Bull's downwash design, are now being marketed as their own take and come with a revised cooling system. When compared to the car the team raced in Baku, which represented Red Bull's most recent major improvement, the new inlets have a broader and shorter 'letterbox' shape.

Verstappen will start on the grid at the Hungaroring looking for his seventh straight victory, which would be Red Bull's 12th consecutive victory dating back to the season-opening race in Abu Dhabi. That would break the record of 11 consecutive victories set by McLaren in 1988, which is now held shared by McLaren and Red Bull in Formula 1.

No one was surprised by Aston Martin's unimpressive performance at Silverstone given that the track's high speeds have not suited their vehicles. While Fernando Alonso was particularly good in Monaco and Montreal, Aston Martin will find the Hungaroring to be a much better suitable circuit for their vehicle because of its affinity for slower speed turns. If they can get it together for the Hungarian GP, Aston Martin could have a lot better weekend, and it wouldn't be shocking to see Alonso up on the podium.

There is no denying that the gap between Aston Martin and the other teams is narrowing; although it always seemed inevitable that Mercedes and Ferrari will pass Aston Martin in terms of speed, Aston Martin will have an opportunity to prove its detractors wrong in this race.

As Andrea Stella said that collaboration and the dispersed model of the technical upgrades made back at the plant in Woking were the keys to Mclaren's substantial upswing in the standings at Silverstone, Mercedes referred to their vehicle as a rocket ship. In contrast to Silverstone, which has high-speed bends where they shine, the Hungaroring does not, it is doubtful that they will have a performance on par with what they showed there.
