Round 1 of Volkswagen Motorsport India's 2018 Ameo Cup came to a successful conclusion at Coimbatore, today. Claiming victories in both the races over the weekend was Dhruv Mohite, as he single-handedly dominated the rest of the field.

After winning the opening race on Saturday, Mohite started the second outing on Sunday from P8 (reverse grid). Starting from pole-position, as a result, was Shivani Pruthvi one of the only two female drivers in the series this season.

As the lights went out, Shivani made a cracking start and led the race for a couple of laps. However, by the end of lap 4, Mohite was lapping consistently faster than everyone else on the grid and soon sliced his way to the top.

On lap 6, the race was temporarily halted, owing to a major crash that involved Manoj Yanamdala's Ameo. In fact, moments after the race got resumed, another incident at turn 1 resulted in a brief safety car period. Affan Islam (Bangladesh) benefitted the most during the safety car period, as SC prevented Saurav Bandyopadhyay from snatching second position from him.

Mohite won comfortably once the safety car period was over, while Affan managed to take the second spot on the podium by a hair's breadth from Bandyopadhyay in third.

The next round of the Ameo Cup will be held in Chennai in July.
