Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has submitted design patent applications in India for the upgraded MY2024 Africa Twin. An image of the modified design from the same recently surfaced online. This extensive patent, which covers both the standard Africa Twin and the Adventure Sports variant, underlines the Japanese bikemaker's intention to introduce these much-anticipated models to Indian buyers. A few months ago, the flagship adventure tourer underwent an update specifically for the European markets. Meanwhile, the revised version arrived in Japan earlier this week, and it is anticipated to touch down in India soon. A modified engine setup and a subtle revamp in design make up the list of updates for the Standard 2024 Africa Twin and the Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES. Read on to learn more.

2024 Honda Africa Twin: Engine Updates

The 1,084cc parallel-twin cylinder engine powering the 2024 Africa Twin is the same as before, with a few upgrades over the previous edition. The brand improved the breathability of the exhaust and intake systems for the MY2024 model. Furthermore, the motor now churns out 7 per cent more torque. In order to accomplish this, changes have been made to the fuel injectors, valves, and airbox diameter. Additionally, the ECU settings have been tweaked. The twin-pot unit's maximum power output has increased to 100.5bhp at 7,500rpm along with a peak torque of 112Nm at 5,500rpm. For reference, the previous iteration's torque output stood at 103Nm. For transmission chores, a six-speed manual and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox options will be on offer.

2024 Honda Africa Twin: Styling Elements and Colour Options

With a few exceptions, the Africa Twin adventure bike's overall design hasn't changed much. To begin with, it receives an updated LED headlamp configuration with a redesigned housing. On top of that, the patent image's front fairings appear slightly different from the one that is currently available for purchase in our market. However, the rest of the model is stylistically unaltered and includes wire-spoked wheels, a bulky engine sump guard, a swooping tail section with a single-piece grab rail, a tall windscreen, a tall handlebar, and hand guards. The Africa Twin, designed for Europe, has an adjustable seat that measures 835mm-855mm; the India-spec version, on the other hand, sits somewhat lower at 810mm-830mm.

The most recent version of the bike comes in two colour options: Pearl Glare White, which has a tricolour theme, and Matt Ballistic Black Metallic.

2024 Honda Africa Twin: Hardware Components

Moving on, the hardware of the Africa Twin has also been improved by the two-wheeler giant. The front wheel is now 19 inches, and the rear wheel measures 18 inches. The wire-spoked units are equipped with front and rear tyres measuring 110/80 and 150/70, respectively. A suspension system from Showa that includes a rear monoshock and 45mm USD front forks are fitted to both models. Notably, the Adventure Sports ES version's electronically controlled suspension is the only distinction.

2024 Honda Africa Twin: India Launch

Honda aims to introduce the all-new Africa Twin in India as evidenced by the registration of this design patent. The 2024 model will be sold through the manufacturer's premium BigWing dealerships. The ex-showroom pricing of the current-generation Africa Twin Adventure Sports starts at Rs 16.02 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 17.56 lakh (ex-showroom). But, with all the modifications the revamped bike offers, a price increase is anticipated. As of now, India imports the motorcycle in its entirety as a completely built unit (CBU).

HMSI Sales Figures: February 2024

In other news, according to a recent report from the company, its dispatches for February 2024 were over 4.59 lakh units, which represents an 86 per cent YoY sales surge. There were 4.14 lakh units sold domestically and a total of 44,744 units exported. Honda further claimed that while its domestic sales surged by 82 per cent year over year (YoY) during the month, exports grew by 122 per cent compared to the same period last year. The manufacturer of two-wheelers also added that over 4.19 lakh units were dispatched in January this year, with 36,883 units going overseas and over 3.82 lakh units being sold locally.
