Bajaj launches the Dominar 400 with a mighty impressive price tag. It is the brand's biggest motorcycle yet.

More than two years and one too many name changes later, Bajaj’s biggest capacity motorcycle has finally gone on sale in India. Billed as the Dominar 400, the sub-400cc motorcycle carries an impressive price-tag of Rs 1.36 lakh and Rs 1.50 lakh (ABS). Both prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi. The Dominar 400 is manufactured at Bajaj’s production facility in Chakan, Maharashtra.

Bajaj first showcased the Dominar 400 as a concept during the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. At that time, it was named the Pulsar CS400. However, Bajaj has decided to exclude the new motorcycle from the Pulsar family as it wants the Dominar 400 to spawn an all new range of power cruisers for the maker.

What hasn’t changed much from the concept though is the design of the new motorcycle. The Dominar 400 looks remarkably similar to the Pulsar CS400 concept. Styling elements such as the chunky LED headlamp unit, muscular fuel tank, LED turn-indicators and split-seats ensure that the production model retains the concept’s brute looks. However, unlike the concept, the Dominar 400 has to make do with conventional telescopic front forks instead of an inverted fork setup. Among other highlights, the Dominar 400 gets a fully-digital instrument cluster, dual-channel ABS, automatic headlamps, radial tyres, etc.

Powering the the Bajaj Dominar 400 is the same liquid-cooled 373.3cc single-cylinder engine that does duty in the KTM 390 Duke. Although in the Bajaj, the engine is slightly detuned as it develops 34.5bhp @8,000rpm and 35Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. It also gets Bajaj's triple-spark ignition system. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox while it also gets a slipper-clutch. The Dominar 400 tips the scales at 182kg. Despite being on the heavier side though, the Dominar 400 will do 0-100km/h in 8.3 seconds and can reach up to a top speed of 148km/h, claims Bajaj.

The Bajaj Dominar will be offered in three exterior shades-  twilight plum, midnight blue and moonlight white.

The Dominar 400 goes on sale in the country starting tomorrow. Initially, the motorcycle will only be sold in 22 towns across India, says Bajaj. Bookings of the motorcycle can only be done at the company's official website at just Rs 9,000. Customer deliveries will begin in January 2017.
