In January, there was a substantial surge in two-wheeler sales, with numerous renowned brands experiencing notable growth. As other manufacturers endeavour to exceed their sales figures from the previous year, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) and Hero MotoCorp are engaged in fierce competition for the leading positions in the country's automotive market. Let's delve into the top five two-wheeler brands in terms of domestic sales in January 2024, along with their year-on-year (YoY) growth.

Hero MotoCorp

Hero MotoCorp had a remarkable start to the year as it secured its first podium at the Dakar Rally – an unprecedented feat for an Indian team. Furthermore, the Indian manufacturer continues to lead the two-wheeler market in India, recording sales of 4,20,934 units in January with a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 20.4 per cent.

The new Mavrick 440 marks the company's entry into the premium motorcycle market. This Hero bike, based on the Harley-Davidson X440, is offered in three variants: base, mid, and top, with a starting price of Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Built on a trellis steel frame, the bike shares its foundation with the Harley Davidson X440.

Powering the Mavrick 440 is a single-cylinder, 440cc oil-cooled engine featuring a six-speed transmission and slip-and-assist clutch. While the engine has been slightly tuned, it produces 27bhp at 6,000rpm and 36Nm at 4,000rpm – 2Nm lower than that of the X440.
