The upcoming Aston Martin DBX all-electric crossover to be produced at the company’s equally new manufacturing facility in St Athan, South Wales

Aston Martin’s product lineup has been scheduled for a major rejig in the future where its entire product line-up will be renewed. Part of this plan is an investment to the tune of £200 million which will also be used to develop a new production facility that will be setup in St Athan, South Wales. Construction of the new plant is scheduled to start next year in 2017 and it is expected to be fully functional by 2020. The new Aston Martin production facility will be spread over 90 acres.

This new Wales facility for Aston Martin will also produce the British marquee’s all-new DBX crossover which as a concept at least is an all electric all-wheel drive model. The Aston Martin DBX although a crossover will compete at some level against upcoming uber luxury SUVs such as the Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga, Maserati Levante as well as the Rolls Royce SUV. Who knows, there may even be an internal combustion engined version of the DBX as well considering its future competition of sorts.

The Aston Martin DBX will be developed to be a family GT car and will be more practical than the concept model with five-doors, it has also been described as the brand’s first ‘’family friendly’’ model. This will also be Aston Martin’s first ever four-wheel drive / all-wheel drive model.

“We showed the concept a year ago, and we’re now in the design phase, working on the dimensions of the production car,” said, Aston Martin CEO, Andrew Charles Palmer.

Aston Martin will continue to develop and produce its next generation of sportscars at the Gaydon manufacturing facility in Warwickshire including the upcoming all-electric RapideE model. While the DBX with a new aluminum-bonded structure that will underpin the next generation of Aston Martin sportscars, and will be made at the Welsh facility that could also produce Lagonda models.
