September 2023 was apparently a good month for many Indian manufacturers, with several vehicle launches/debuts and increased sales numbers. We have compiled a list of the top five cars, which dominated the Indian auto market in September with impressive sales. According to reports, Maruti Suzuki maintained its lead, with six of its models ranking in the top ten best-selling cars.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno maintained its strong position with 18,417 units sold in the previous month. It was ahead of the pack, which featured popular vehicles such as the Tata Nexon and Hyundai Creta. The Baleno hatchback is available in four trim levels – Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha, with prices ranging from Rs 6.61 lakh to Rs 9.88 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Let's take a brief look at the top five best-selling vehicles for the month of September.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno
Maruti Suzuki's dominance over the Indian vehicle industry continued in September, with the Baleno hatchback topping the list of best-selling cars. In September, the automaker sold 18,417 units of the hatchback. However, this figure was lower than that of September 2022, when the automaker sold 19,369 units of the hatchback, registering a 5% year-on-year decline.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR
Maruti Suzuki reported selling 16,250 units of the WagonR in September this year. Following its hatchback sibling, the WagonR took the second spot on the list because of its ever-growing popularity in the country. Although the Maruti WagonR sales improved month over month (MoM), its year-over-year (YoY) sales reduced by 19%. For reference, the carmaker sold 20,078 units of WagonR in September 2022.
Tata Nexon
In September 2023, the Tata Nexon was the third best-selling car and the top-selling SUV, overall. The automaker sold 15,325 units of the Nexon last month, registering a 6% year-over-year increase. The model in its facelifted form was recently launched in India alongside its revamped electrified variant. Prices for the new Tata Nexon range between Rs 8.10 lakh and Rs 13 lakh in India.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza
The Tata Nexon was followed by the Maruti Brezza in terms of sales numbers in September 2023. Maruti Suzuki delivered 15,544 units of the Brezza in September, compared to 15,445 in the same month last year, resulting in a 3% year-on-year decline. The price of the Brezza ranges from Rs 8.29 lakh to Rs 14.14 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
Maruti Suzuki Swift
The Swift hatchback took the fifth spot on the best-seller list for the month of September. The automaker sold 14,703 units of the hatchback last month, registering a 23% year-over-year growth from 1,988 units in the same period last month. The Maruti Suzuki Swift’s prices range between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 9.03 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Apart from these five vehicles, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire (13,880 units), Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (13,528 units), Tata Punch (13,036 units), Hyundai Creta (12,717 units), and Hyundai Venue (12,204 units) also made it to the top-ten list in terms of sales last month.
