MG Motor India has announced that the compact, two-door Air EV will be available in India early next year. The small electric car is likely to make its public appearance at the Delhi Auto Expo in January 2023, ahead of its market launch. It will be the automaker's entry-level electric vehicle, which is expected to be more luxurious than the recently debuted Tata Tiago EV. The MG Air EV is based on the current Wuling Air EV in Indonesia.

In terms of powertrain, the Air EV will have a battery pack capacity of roughly 20kWh-25kWh and a 39.45bhp electric motor. LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cells will also be used in the model, which are noted for their extended life lifetime, lightweight design, lack of maintenance, and improved discharge and charge efficiency. Similar cells were utilised in the Tata Nexon EV. In real-world driving conditions, it will have a range of 150 kilometres on a single charge. The little electric vehicle will be FWD (Front-Wheel Drive).

Tata AutoComp will supply the battery pack to the British manufacturer. For the uninitiated, Tata AutoComp has partnered with China-based Gotion to design, manufacture, deliver, and service Li-ion battery packs for electric vehicles in India. Gotion China is one of the major battery cell and pack manufacturers in the Chinese market.

Despite its compact size, the Air EV will be jam-packed with functionality. The MG Air EV sports a tiny, boxy appearance, measuring roughly 2.9 metres in length. It has a wheelbase of 2010mm. An angular front bumper, a charging port door, a snout with a full-width light bar, Squarish headlamps, short fog lamps, 12-inch steel wheels with plastic hub caps, and small taillamps are among its prominent design features. The compact electric car is anticipated to include two 10.25-inch displays, one for infotainment and one for instruments. The new MG Air EV will be priced close to ₹10 lakh (ex-showroom).
