The move will benefit current & potential MG ZS EV owners. However, these fast chargers can also be accessed by other EV owners, if their vehicle complies with CCS/CHAdeMO charging standards.

To provide a big sales push to the ZS EV, MG Motor India has signed an MoU with Tata Power to set up more fast chargers at its dealerships in select regions. As per the MoU, Tata Power will deploy 50kW DC fast chargers at multiple MG dealerships across the country to enhance the country's end-to-end EV charging infrastructure. MG already has 10 of these fast chargers set up across its dealerships in five cities – New Delhi (NCR), Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, & Hyderabad.

Though the details of the MoU have not been revealed yet (the number of fast chargers to be deployed or their exact location), likely, the charging infrastructure will first be strengthened in the above-mentioned key sales regions of MG, followed by other, smaller regions in the coming months, in which, MG plans on expanding its EV business. As mentioned above, these fast chargers will be accessible to both MG customers as well as EV owners of other brands.

Sharing his thoughts on this partnership, Rajeev Chaba (President & MD, MG Motor India) said, 'Further strengthening our commitment to India, we aim to provide our customers with a robust charging ecosystem to promote the adoption of cleaner & greener mobility solutions. With a partner like Tata Power, a renowned major in the field of power & renewable energy, we are confident that we will create a distinct synergy together.'

The MG-Tata Power venture will also work on the management of second-life EV batteries, which are essentially end-of-life batteries that can either be reconditioned/repurposed for application in other areas. This, however, is an endeavour planned for the future.
