The AMT equipped Nissan Terrano is expected to be launched around the festive season

The demand for an automatic transmission compact SUV has been rising constantly. Mahindra introduced the Scorpio Automatic last year and more recently the XUV 500 and Hyundai too has an automatic variant of the Creta on offer. Renault recently gave its popular compact SUV, the Duster a mild face-lift and introduced it with the Easy-R AMT option. Our sources close to Nissan have revealed that the company will soon join the bandwagon with the launch of the Terrano AMT during the festive season.

Based on the same platform as the Renault Duster, the Nissan Terrano too will come with an identical Easy-R AMT gearbox. Currently, the Terrano comes equipped with petrol as well as diesel engine options. The petrol motor makes 103bhp and 145Nm from a 1.6-litre unit. The diesel on the other hand is a 1.5-litre unit that is available in two states of tune – 84bhp and 109bhp. Just like the Duster, the Terrano AMT too will be offered only in the higher spec 109bhp diesel variants.

Unlike the Renault offering, the Terrano isn’t expected to undergo a cosmetic surgery. While the exterior is expected to remain unchanged, Nissan might just make minor changes to its interior and feature list to bring it on par with competition. Expect the AMT equipped Terrano to cost marginally higher than the similarly spec-ced Renault Duster. Aside from the Terrano AMT, Nissan also has the 2016 GT-R and the X-Trail Hybrid on the cards for India this year.
