The 918 Spyder, which starts at $9,58,880, is also the most expensive car Porsche has ever made.

“We are close to the finish line,” were the words of Bernhard Maier, Porsche sales chief on Monday on the 918 Spyder Hybrid model. Porsche has limited the numbers available of this car to 918 making it exclusive and also synonymous to the name of the car. The model is available with a price tag that starts from $9,58,880 (€7,68,026) in the western markets. As you read this, only a small double-digit number of the hybrid model is available, and the price can rise up to $11,76,603 (€9,47,716) depending on the optional equipments. The sales of this model will also help Porsche financially as the German car manufacturer struggles with rising capacity and technology costs.

Porsche unveiled this car for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013. So far, Porsche has delivered close to 30 918 Spyders globally and most of the remaining units have already been purchased. Each and every Porsche 918 Spyder is hand-made. Production of this car started around September 2013 which means that its production rate is very slow.

This exclusive car will reach the 100kmph mark in little over 2.5 seconds, and the hybrid engine will produce 887bhp of maximum power. It’s fitted with the latest technology like a high-performance hybrid battery developed specially for this car. It also has two electric motors that can be charged in under two hours.

Commenting on the figures, Andre Oosthuizen, Vice President, Marketing, Porsche Cars North America Inc. said, “Production of the plug-in hybrid supercar's 918 promised units will end next July, and planned production is sold out through late March or early April. So if that's anything to go by, it's probably in the last and the final straight."
