The Rinspeed Etos, which is still in a concept form, will be a hybrid sports car which will have the option of autonomous driving and will be showcased at the CES 2016.

Formed in 1979, Rinspeed is a Swiss company which specialises in restoring classics, and tuning and modifying modern day performance cars. Since 1991, they have been religiously going to the Geneva Motor Show, displaying some of the most brilliant and exotic concept cars, but never decided to make those concepts into reality.

For the first time in many years, Rinspeed has decided to move a bit far from its home ground by unveiling a new concept car in Las Vegas. The car will be shown for the first time at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) which will be held in Las Vegas from January 6-9, 2016.

Commenting on the new location, Frank M. Rinderknecht, Head of Rinspeed, said, “The major and especially the disruptive innovations in future automotive engineering will come from the digital realm. That is why all major manufacturers and suppliers are now present at the CES Consumer Electronic Show.”

The Rinspeed Etos will take the idea of a ‘driverless car’ to a new dimension. In the autonomous mode, the interior of the car will adapt to the driving situation. The steering wheel will fold up and retract completely into the dashboard. The two curved wide screens will move closer to the occupants to provide them with a better view.

The car’s infotainment system will use the innovative Harman Connected Car technologies. This system “operates in a thinking, courteous and anticipatory manner. In addition, it delivers perfect entertainment, connectivity and maximum safety.”

The Rinspeed Etos will come with a drone that has its own landing pad on the rear end. According to the guys at Rinspeed, “it could fetch a bouquet of flowers the driver ordered online and even deliver it directly to the lucky recipient. It could also take a video of the wild ride on the favourite fun road and stream it live to friends!”
