The Altroz iCNG will be launched in India on April 19th, according to Tata Motors. The Indian automaker displayed the Punch CNG in addition to the Altroz CNG at the January Auto Expo. For those unaware, after the Tiago and the Tigor, the Altroz will be the third model in the brand's lineup to come with a factory-installed CNG kit. As with the Tiago and the Tigor CNG, it is anticipated that the Altroz will be available in XM, XZ, and the top-of-the-line XZ+ trims. With the exception of the addition of the "iCNG" badge on the tailboard, the exterior of the Altroz CNG will remain unchanged. We outline what to expect from the brand-new Altroz iCNG, which provides a number of industry-first features.

Tata Altroz iCNG: What's New?

By not drastically sacrificing boot space, Tata Motors has cleverly packaged the Altroz CNG. The Altroz comes with twin cylinders that are mounted on the floorboard of the cargo area rather than a standard CNG kit, which significantly reduces the amount of luggage space. The combined capacity of the two cylinders is 60 litres. Similar to the Tiago, the Altroz iCNG has a Single Advanced ECU that ensures a smooth transition from CNG to petrol mode. Additionally, it features Direct Start in CNG and automatically switches from CNG to petrol when the CNG is running low.

Tata Altroz iCNG: Engine, and Gearbox

The 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated Revotron petrol engine that powers the Altroz iCNG produces 76bhp of maximum power and 97Nm of peak torque. Most likely, this unit will only be available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The hatchback's standard petrol engine produces 88bhp and 115Nm, as would be expected, giving it more power. Additionally, a 1.5-litre engine with a maximum power output of 89bhp and 200Nm of torque is offered in the diesel trim of the Altroz, while a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 108bhp and 140Nm of torque is also an option. The Altroz can also start immediately in CNG mode, a feature none of its competitors offer, much like the Tiago and the Tigor CNG. We anticipate that the Altroz will offer a similar fuel economy to that of the Tiago and Tigor CNG, which is 26.49km/kg.

Next, let's talk about the safety features. The Altroz CNG will have six airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seats, Corner Stability Control, and a leakage detection feature in case any gas leaks from the twin CNG cylinders.
