Winners

  1. The Baleno was the best-selling car in August 2022, as Maruti Suzuki dispatched 18,418 units of the premium hatchback, which marks a growth of 18% in year-on-year sales. Its sales are also substantially higher than they were in July 2022 (17,960 units).
  2. We’re straightaway jumping to the last car on the list – the Mahindra Scorpio/Scorpio N. With 7,056 units sold, the SUV’s sales saw a bump of 171% in its monthly sales in August 2022 as compared to the corresponding month in 2021. If you need proof of Mahindra Scorpio N’s success, there you have it!
  3. From 12th in July 2022 to 3rd in August 2022, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza has gained many spots, thanks to the launch of the face-lifted version. With 15,193 units sold, the Brezza is not just back to being the best-selling compact SUV, but it’s also the best-selling SUV in the country at the moment.
  4. With the Brezza becoming the best-selling compact SUV, the Tata Nexon is now displaced to the second spot. However, in terms of sales, the Nexon’s monthly numbers were up by 51% in August 2022 as compared to August 2021. Also, it only lost its crown to the Brezza, with a difference of just 108 units.
  5. The Maruti Suzuki Alto is back in the top 5. In July 2022, the entry-level hatchback was down to the 14th spot with just 9,065 units sold. However, thanks to the launch of the new K10 version, monthly sales of the Alto rose to 14,388 units in August.

Losers:

  1. Although the Wagon R sits at the second spot in monthly sales, its sales were down substantially in August as compared to July 2022, when it was the best-selling car with 22,588 units sold. That said, its sales numbers nearly doubled compared to August 2021.
  2. The Swift was the third best-selling car in the month of July 2022 (17,539 units). However, last month, it slipped down to the tenth spot as Maruti sold only 11,275 units.
  3. The S-Presso was another Maruti Suzuki car that slipped down the order – from ninth (11,268 units) in July to 17th (7,774 units) in August.
  4. The Dzire too saw a blip in its sales in August as compared to July (11,868 units vs 13,747 units).
  5. Although you can’t find the Toyota Innova Crysta on this month’s list, it’s out of the top 20, as the company sold 6,036 units in August as compared to 6,900 units sold in July 2022. The fact that Toyota has halted the bookings for the diesel version of the MPV could be one of the reasons for lower volumes in August.
