Volkswagen had already opened the order books for the ID.3 1ST a few weeks back, and have now commenced sale of the ID.3 as well. Options of seven pre-configured vehicles and two battery sizes made available to customers

Entering into the electric mobility phase, Volkswagen took the wraps off the ID.3 in September last year, and now the company has commenced the sale of the ID.3 in Europe. Customers will be able to select from one of seven pre-configured iterations of the ID.3 which will come with the option of two battery size options. Deliveries are expected to start some time in October.

The ID.3 is based on Volkswagen’s new Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform and is powered by a 58kWh battery pack that gives the car a driving range of up to 420km according to the WLTP test cycle. This battery pack gives the car max torque of 310Nm and takes it from naught to 60km/h in just 3.4 seconds. The ID.3 also comes with fast charging capability allowing it to be charged for up to 290km in just 30 minutes when connected to a 100kW quick charger.

All variants of the ID.3 are equipped with a navigation system for range optimisation, adaptive cruises control, and more. Select variants of the electric offering will also come fitted with the Matrix LED headlights, LED taillights with dynamic turn indicators, and a panoramic glass roof.

Speaking about the launch, Jürgen Stackmann, Volkswagen Brand Board Member for Sales, said, “A large majority of these customers have already ordered their 1ST from dealers. Other customers, who have had to wait for the start of production sales, will now be able to order. From July 20, they can choose between seven preconfigured ID.3 models with the most popular features at their dealerships.”

In the European market, the ID.3 starts at €35,575 (Rs 30.50 lakh approx.) for the ProPerformance variant and the fully loaded Tour trim with the larger battery and 550km driving range demands €45,917.48 (Rs 39.36 lakh approx). This top-end variant comes with features like head-up display, 12-way massage function, driver assistance and 19-inch aluminium wheels.

Volkswagen will introduce a cheaper €30,000 (Rs 25.71 lakh) variant, with a 330km driving range in a few months’ time. The launch of the ID.3 is the beginning VW’s switch to electric offerings. Under its electric offensive, the Volkswagen brand is planning to offer electric vehicles in all of the main vehicle segments by 2022.
