Amaze, City & More Help Honda Cars India Clock 7% Growth in FY23

Honda Cars India has revealed its sales numbers for March 2023. The carmaker has recorded 7% growth in FY23. In the global market, the firm shipped 22,722 units in FY22-23, compared to 19,401 units in the last fiscal year.

Honda Cars India recorded a total domestic sales of 91,418 units in FY22-23, which is a growth of 7% compared to 85,609 units sold in the last financial year. In the International market, the carmaker shipped 22,722 units in FY22-23 as opposed to 19,401 units in the last fiscal year, registering an increase of over 17%. Along with this, the company reported domestic sales of 6,692 units in March 2023, registering 1.56% YoY growth compared to the 6,589 units sold at the same time last year. In terms of export, the carmaker sold 3,189 units internationally in March of this year, compared to 2,243 units in the same period last year. On the other hand, MoM sales increased by 9.96%, given that the company sold 6,089 units in February 2023. 

Honda's 2023 March Sales: What the Company Has to Say.

Commenting on the fiscal year sales performance, Mr Yuichi Murata, Director of Marketing and Sales at Honda Cars India Ltd., stated, 'We are pleased to report that our sales for the Financial Year 2022-23 have met our expectations. Honda Cars India has achieved a domestic sales growth of 7%, driven by the strong and positive sales momentum of our models specifically the Amaze and City. The Amaze’s sales have grown by 33% in the last fiscal year, making it one of the most preferred family sedans in India.'

'The Honda City continues its legacy of success by being the largest-selling mid-size sedan in the country last year. Our sincere gratitude to our customers, dealers, and suppliers for their strong support of the Honda brand in India. Our export performance also has been very good in FY 22-23, with a growth of 17%,' said Murata.

He further added, 'Despite the persistent challenges posed by the global chip shortage, and its impact on production volumes, the Indian automobile industry has had one of its strongest years in terms of sales. We believe that India holds significant potential and anticipate even greater demand in the years ahead.'

Honda to bring a Mid-size SUV to India in Mid-2023?

Honda Cars India is reportedly gearing up to launch a mid-size SUV in the country in mid-2023. The company has not shared any information about the upcoming SUV yet. However, market speculations reveal that the compact model may share mechanical specifics with the new City. It could come equipped with a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, mated to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission. Speculations further indicate that the SUV could also get a hybrid engine with a 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled to an electric powertrain.
