Honda Cars India posted domestic sales of 7,902 vehicles in December 2023, as well as international shipments of 3,749 cars, representing a year-on-year rise of 12% and 170%, respectively. In the previous year at the same time, the manufacturer sold 7,062 units in the domestic market and delivered 1,388 units overseas. Honda credited the achievement to the Elevate, which accounted for 50% of brand sales overall, as well as its best-selling cars, the City and the Amaze. However, the corporation saw a 9% decline on a month-over-month basis when it sold 8,730 cars domestically. In contrast, the exports went up by 18% month-on-month as the company dispatched 588 more units than it did the month before.

Mr. Yuichi Murata, Director, of Marketing and Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd., commented on the sales and said ''The sales momentum in December has been extremely positive for us in both factory despatches and retail as our network maximised the deliveries for the new SUV Elevate to our customers. Alongside our best sellers City and Amaze, the Elevate has become our strong pillar of business accounting for over 50% of total HCIL sales currently. On the exports front too, we registered our highest-ever monthly export volume of 3,749 units from India. With strong sales momentum and growing market potential, backed by a robust business plan, we look forward to usher in 2024 with tremendous positivity and optimism.”

It is worth mentioning that Honda accomplished a significant milestone in December 2023 when sales of the Elevate SUV hit 20,000 units just 100 days following the vehicle's September 2023 launch. Let's take a closer look at the engine and other specifications of the SUV that reportedly contributed the most to the company's success.

Honda Elevate: Engine

The heart of Honda's mid-size SUV is a 1.5-litre iVTEC petrol motor that churns out a maximum power of 120bhp and a peak torque of 145Nm. For transmission, the engine uses either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed CVT transmission.

The brand-new Elevate from Honda is offered in four variants:  SV, V, VX, and ZX. All these four different variants feature a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, but only the V, VX, and ZX models get the 7-speed CVT gearbox option.
