In April, MG Motor saw a two-fold increase in sales throughout India. According to the automaker, it sold 4,551 units last month, more than twice as many as it could have in the same month in 2022. However, sales have decreased slightly from March of this year, when MG Motor recorded its best month for sales in India since its debut in 2019. For those unaware, 2,008 units were sold by MG Motor in April of last year. With the launch of the Hector SUV in 2019, MG Motor India made its debut in this market. Other models that came after it included the ZS EV, the Gloster, and the Astor. Since then, the Hector and the ZS EV have both been updated, with the three-row model receiving significant updates just this year.

MG Motor India Sales Report: April 2023

MG Motor released its monthly sales report, stating that the company's current supply chain challenges are to blame for the sales decline. In a statement released today, MG Motor predicted that the upcoming months would bring about more advancements in this area.

By selling 4,551 units, MG Motor India reported a YoY sales growth of 126.64 per cent in April 2023. This is encouraging news for the firm because it shows that MG car demand is increasing despite ongoing supply chain problems. However, on a month-over-month basis, sales have decreased by 24.79 per cent, which may be credited to inventory shortages and industry-wide offers given to buyers last month as automakers updated vehicles to be BS6 phase 2 compliant (OBD and E20 fuel).

MG Hector Back Three Quarter

The majority of MG Motor's sales still depend on the company's upscale SUV, Hector. In 2022, MG introduced the Hector in a new guise, which has since become the best-selling model in India. With an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 14.72 lakh, MG Motor introduced the new Hector 2023 SUV in India. Further, the Hector has undergone a number of changes in its new generation, including design, features, and technology.

While YoY growth is commendable, it should be noted that a portion of it can be attributed to the relatively low base effect from the last year's severely impacted market. The business has been making investments in creating new products and broadening its portfolio, which has helped to drive overall sales growth. The automaker has assured its customers that it is working diligently to meet demand despite the supply chain issues, and improvements can be anticipated in the upcoming months. In the Indian automotive market, MG Motor India has attracted attention for its emphasis on electric vehicles and environmentally friendly urban mobility. The company's sales and market share are anticipated to increase as a result of the MG Comet EV launch.

MG Comet EV Launched in India

After the ZS EV, MG Motor recently launched the Comet as its second electric vehicle for the Indian market. With prices starting at Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom), it is marketed as one of India's most affordable electric vehicles. Bookings for those wishing to purchase the electric vehicle will start on May 15; deliveries will follow. The vehicle has a small turning radius of 4.2 metres and telescoping steering wheel adjustability, according to the manufacturer, making it an excellent choice for urban commuters. For those who don't know, it is based on the Wuling Air EV, which is sold in Indonesia and was created using the BICO (Big Inside, Compact Outside) design principle.

The 17.3kWh battery pack inside the Comet EV is said to provide up to 230 kilometre of driving range on a full charge. Using a 3.3kW charger, it can be charged from empty to 100% in about 7 hours and from 10% to 80% in 5 hours. A single PMS (Permanent Magnet Synchronous) motor mounted over the hatchback's rear axle drives it. The motor's peak torque is 110Nm, and its power output is 42bhp. The electric vehicle is said to have a top speed of 100km/h.

Based on the Wuling Air EV sold in Indonesia, the new Comet EV from MG Motor India is created on SAIC's Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform. A closed grille, a full-width LED strip, fashionable headlamps, disc brakes, and the visibly noticeable bumper are added to the boxy-looking EV's front end. In addition, the vehicle has LED headlights, 12-inch alloy wheels, drum brakes, and a rear-view mirror with a floating motif. The Comet EV's suspension system consists of multi-link coil springs and McPherson struts at the back.

The Comet's interior features two 10.25-inch digital panels for the infotainment system and instrumentation, as well as a two-spoke steering wheel with pod-like controls. Voice control, navigation, and widgets with three customisable pages are all supported by the infotainment system. Other components include a 12-Volt charging port, manual air conditioning with rotary dials, and more than 55 connected car features. According to the manufacturer, the MG Comet's smart key is a standout feature that contributes to the car's Tech-Vibe. 17 hot stamped panels, a rear parking camera and sensor, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), ISOFIX child mounts, and front and rear 3-point seat belts are among the safety features offered by this vehicle.
