Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has announced its monthly sales figures for August. In the said month, the Japanese automaker recorded its highest sales volume ever in India. Talking about the numbers, it sold 22,910 units in August, the highest in any month for the company. Meanwhile, the auto major sold 14,959 vehicles in the same month the previous year. In comparison, Toyota's August 2023 sales increased by 53 per cent. The firm dispatched 20,970 units to dealers this past month out of the roughly 23,000 cars that were sent out. The remaining 1,940 units constitute the export numbers. Notably, models like the Hyryder SUV and the Innova Hycross MPV are the primary contributors to this significant sales growth witnessed by the carmaker. Toyota's India lineup consists of models such as the Fortuner, the Glanza, the Legender, and the Innova Crysta. Besides, the manufacturer recently expanded its portfolio with the introduction of the brand-new Rumion MPV, which is positioned below the top-of-the-line Innova MPV and is a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki's Ertiga.
Toyota Rumion MPV: Engine and Gearbox
As mentioned above, the 7-seater Rumion from Toyota recently arrived in the domestic market. The cost of the MPV ranges from Rs 10.29 lakh to Rs 13.68 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom). The bookings for the car are currently open, with deliveries commencing next week.
Coming to the powertrain, the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) gasoline engine in the Toyota Rumion has a maximum torque and power output of 137Nm and 102bhp, respectively. It is coupled to either a six-speed torque converter automatic transmission or a five-speed manual transmission. On the other hand, the identical motor, which only comes with the five-speed manual gearbox in CNG-spec, has a peak power output of 87bhp and a maximum torque output of 121.5Nm. The maker claims that the Rumion petrol delivers a mileage of 20.51km/l, whereas the Rumion CNG boasts a fuel efficiency of 26.11km/kg.
Toyota Rumion MPV: Feature Set
The Rumion's interior includes cruise control, a 7-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Toyota i-Connect, which enables users to control other features like climate control remotely, as well as other connected car technology. Moreover, the cabin of the MPV comes with faux wood accents in a dual-tone theme. The Rumion is equipped with dual front and side airbags, ABS with EBD, an engine immobilizer, an Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and other safety features.
Toyota Rumion MPV: Design and Market Rivals
Since they were both created on the same platform, the Toyota Rumion and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga have a lot in common visually. However, the inclusion of trapezoidal fog lamp housings to the Rumion's bumper is the most prominent change. Additionally, a new grille that mimics the Innova Crysta has been added. Another distinguishing characteristic of the car is its brand-new dual-tone alloy wheels. In terms of market competition, the Toyota MPV is up against models such as the Maruti Suzuki XL6, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, and the Kia Carens.
Commenting on the firm's recent sales performance, Atul Sood, Vice President, Sales and Strategic Marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, remarked, 'We are thrilled to report our best-ever sales performance by selling 22,910 units in the month of August 2023.
