When it comes to heavy construction equipment, the last thing you would probably relate them to is speed. However, in a recent event in Sydney, the world-famous JCB GT has just been crowned as the fastest digger on earth after reaching speeds of more than 115km/h.

The JCB GT was originally designed to perform high-speed wheelies at racing events, so it seemed like a good idea for the heavy construction equipment manufacturer to attempt a high speed record. The event took place in front of independent record officials at Bathurst, near Sydney, and Guinness World Records confirmed that the powerful JCB digger was officially the fastest backhoe loader in the world with a speed of 116.82km/h.

Another interesting fact is that the latest record is not the only one that JCB’s backhoe holds. The machine has been the world’s biggest selling backhoe loader for 14 consecutive years, and the company has made more than half a million backhoes in the past 61 years since inventing the machine in 1953.
