One of the most prominent automakers in the country, Maruti Suzuki, has announced that the Fronx SUV is now the fastest passenger car in India to reach the one lakh sales mark. The crossover, which debuted in April last year and is based on the Baleno hatchback, has achieved this impressive milestone in around ten months. It is important to note that approximately 9,000 of these units have been shipped to countries in Latin America and Africa, with the remaining units being sold in the domestic market. The model currently holds a 12 per cent market share in the prevalent subcompact SUV class, which has helped the carmaker secure a sizable 30 per cent share in the market. The automatic versions have contributed a larger 24 per cent share in overall sales of SUVs, although CNG variants account for 20 per cent of sales. However, just 7 per cent of the Fronx's total sales on the market come from the pricier turbo versions.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx: Engine Specifications

Currently, only a couple of petrol-powered options are available for the Fronx. The two engine options are a 1.0-litre turbocharged Booster Jet and a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated (NA) engine. Both mills come paired with a five-speed manual transmission as standard. The naturally aspirated unit's maximum power output is 88bhp at 6,000rpm, while its peak torque production stands at 113Nm at 4,400rpm. The manufacturer offers a 5-speed AMT in addition to the manual gearbox. Furthermore, the MT's stated fuel efficiency is 21.8km/l, whereas for the AT, it is 22.89km/l.

Apart from manual transmission, Maruti Suzuki offers a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission with paddle shifters. For the manual transmission, the brand claims a fuel efficiency of 21.5km/l, and for the automatic transmission, 20.02km/l.

Buyers can also choose to have the 1.2-litre engine coupled to a manual gearbox with a CNG powerplant. When employing CNG, the unit's power and torque output decrease to 77bhp and 98.5Nm, respectively. The claimed fuel economy is 28.51km/kg.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx: Styling and Rivals

In terms of design, the Fronx combines the stance and flair of the Grand Vitara SUV with the form of the Baleno hatchback. As a result, the car exudes assertiveness and draws attention while driving. Its distinctive appearance is due to the split grille design, which positions the headlights on the lower bumper. The Fronx's unique tailgate arrangement and integrated LED taillamp at the back contribute to its attractiveness. The model has a wide range of exterior paint hues, with seven appealing options: Arctic White, Earthen Brown, Opulent Red, Splendid Silver, Bluish Black, Celestial Blue, and Grandeur Grey.

The Tata Punch, the Nissan Magnite, the Renault Kiger, and the Citroen C3 are several market competitors of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
