The Hyundai Verna is the latest addition to our long-term fleet and it is a rather joyous occasion. You see, my first experience with the latest sedan from Hyundai in India was at its first drive experience which you would have read about in our April issue. Then, the second encounter happened when we lined it up against the Volkswagen Virtus and the Honda City in a three-way sedan comparison where it was arguably the best of the lot, as you would have read in our May Issue. And now, finally, the time has come to give the Hyundai Verna the full-fledged attention that it deserves, at least in my books.

While in the coming months, I will be sharing my in-depth experience with the Hyundai Verna, it is perhaps best to start things off with a refresher about what the car brings to the table. Our test unit comes with a 1,497cc 4-cylinder MPi petrol engine that is naturally aspirated and makes 115PS of power at 6,300rpm and 143.8Nm of torque at 4,500rpm. This engine comes mated with the choice of either a 6-speed manual or the iVT automatic transmission option, our test unit comes with the latter. Yes, that does indeed mean that our long-term unit choice was not the turbo petrol variant with the snazzy DCT gearbox because I believe that while that is the choice of the enthusiasts, the non-turbo iVT gearbox-equipped variant is the value for money configuration for most of the buyers.

Additionally, the Hyundai Verna comes loaded to the brim with features. It comes with connected light design at the rear and also at the front, with the LED DRLs. The headlamps are positioned below it and seem like an extension of the black chrome finished parametric grille. What also stands out is the coupe-like roofline that gives the Verna a unique look.

On the inside, what stands out is the ambient lights that extend to the doors, ventilated and heated seats, electric sunroof, smart trunk, rear manual curtain and push button start as well. That’s not it, it also has a 10.25-inch infotainment system along with a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and a great-sounding Bose sound system as well, phew!
