Ather Energy, the Bengaluru-based EV manufacturer, recently confirmed that the production of its brand-new 450S electric scooter has commenced in the country. With the recent launch, the firm expanded its 450 range in response to significant changes to the FAME-II subsidy scheme. The Ather 450S is currently the brand's most affordable product and is positioned below the company's popular 450X, which has an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 1.38 lakh. The 450S e-scooter is available in two distinct variants with the base Core version priced at Rs 1.30 lakh and the top-spec Pro version costing Rs 1.43 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom. Appearance-wise, the new 450S looks clean and contemporary. Due to its sleek style and sharp lines, it appears futuristic. Additionally, its riding ergonomics are well-designed to provide a comfortable riding experience over long distances.
Ather 450S: Battery Pack and Range
The 450S, which is powered by a 2.9kWh lithium-ion battery, has a certified range of up to 115-kilometre, whereas the real-world range is 90-kilometre when in SmartEco mode. The e-scooter, which comes standard with a 350-watt charger, will take more than 8 and a half hours to fully charge, according to Ather. However, as an optional accessory, customers can also purchase the more powerful 750-watt charger. Furthermore, it can accelerate from 0 to 40km/h in 3.9 seconds.
Ather 450S: Hardware
Telescopic front forks and a mono-shock for suspension duties make up the electric scooter's hardware components. The braking system, at the same time, features a single disc with combined and regenerative braking as standard at the front and rear. Moreover, tubeless tyres with 90/90 front and 100/80 rear sections are mounted on 12-inch alloy wheels for the Ather 450S.
Ather 450S: Feature Set
The 450S receives a 7.0-inch 'Deepview' LCD digital cluster instead of the other scooters in Ather's portfolio, which feature touchscreen digital clusters. The 450S will come with multipoint Bluetooth connectivity in the Pro version, auto-hold, MapMyIndia-powered turn-by-turn navigation, along with four ride modes (SmartEco, Eco, Ride, and Sport; there are no ride modes in the Core variant). On the digital dashboard of the 450S, features are accessed via a joystick.
The 450 lineup also includes a variety of new features, including "Fall Safe" (automatic motor cut-off when a scooter falls), an emergency stop signal, coasting regen (which increases range by up to 7 per cent), a revised mud flap, a new switchgear with two new switches, and an enhanced intercity travel planner.
Ather 450S: Competition Check
The entry-level model in the 450 series, the 450S, will be available in India for a starting price of Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom). The manufacturer previously opened the order books for the vehicle for a token amount of Rs 2,500. Speaking of competitors on the market, it will be up against models such as the Bajaj Chetak, the TVS iQube S, and the Ola S1 Air, among others.
