Bajaj Auto Records 25% Decline in Sales for January 2023

Bajaj Auto Limited has released its sales figure for January 2023. Further, it has been revealed that the Bajaj Chetak e-scooter will be introduced in the European markets sometime around 2024.

Bajaj Auto Limited sold 2.41 lakh two-wheelers in January 2023, compared to the 3.23 lakh two-wheelers at the same time last year, which represents a 25% fall in sales. The company, however, performed better in domestic markets, selling 1,40,428 two-wheelers last month, an increase of 4% from the 1,35,496 units sold in January 2022. In terms of export, the manufacturer shipped 1,00,679 units in Jan 2023, lesser than the 1,87,934 units dispatched in the same time last year, which represents a 46% decline. Overall, the firm sold 2,85,995 units in the previous month compared to the 3,63,443 units sold in January 2022, depicting a 21% decrease in total sales. Notably, Bajaj Auto has announced a YoY growth of 12 percent in the commercial vehicle category.

In the domestic market, the models like the Bajaj Pulsar, Platina, Avenger, Dominar, CT, and Chetak reported strong sales figures, which enabled the manufacturer to perform better. In related news, Bajaj Auto will soon launch the Chetak electric scooter on a global platform. According to the reports, the electric scooter would contribute massively as a commute in an international market like Europe. Reportedly, the scooter will start running on European roads in the first quarter of 2024.

The Chetak scooter from Bajaj, which went on sale in India in January 2020 for Rs. 1 lakh, is now priced at about Rs 1.52 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). In terms of competition, the scooter lock horns with the Ather450 X, the TVS iQube, and more. There is no update about the price of the Chetak electric scooter that will hit the European market.

Considering the pricing policy for India, which depends on several aspects, including market competition, target audience, and a total value proposition offered by the product, the price for an international market like Europe will reportedly be decided in the same manner by the brand. The Chetak scooter has been a household name since its launch in India. It boasts a neo-retro style, combining cutting-edge technology and classic elements.
