FY 2017-18 brings strong two-wheeler sales

Most bike makers ended FY 2017-18 on a positive note with both domestic sales and exports surging during this time frame as compared to FY 2016-17. Hero also closed the fiscal on a strong note of growth, clocking its highest-ever monthly sales of 730,473 units in the month of March 2018.

Most bike makers ended FY 2017-18 on a positive note with both domestic sales and exports surging during this time frame as compared to FY 2016-17.  

Hero MotoCorp

eHero MotoCorp clocked its highest-ever annual sals of 7,587,130 units in FY 2017-18, which translates to a growth of around 14 per cent over the corresponding fiscal (FY’17) with sales of 66,64,240 units of two-wheelers. Hero also closed the fiscal on a strong note of growth, clocking its highest-ever monthly sales of 730,473 units in the month of March 2018.

Royal Enfield

The retro-modern bike maker’s sales figures are on constant rise with the company moving a total of 8,20,492 units in FY 2017-18, resulting in a net increase of 23 per cent as compared to the previous fiscal. Royal Enfield also sold 76,087 bikes in March 2018 – a 27 per cent YoY increase.

TVS

During FY 2017-18, two-wheeler sales of TVS grew by 17.8 per cent, increasing from 28.58 lakh units registered in FY 2016-17 to 33.67 lakh units in the year under review. In March 2018, TVS’s two-wheelers registered growth of 25.8 per cent with sales increasing from 250,979 units in March 2017 to 315,765 units in March 2018.

Honda

Honda 2Wheelers India’s total sales grew by 22 per cent from 5,008,230 units in FY 2016-17 to 6,123,886 units in FY 2017-18. Honda’s domestic sales crossed 4,725,067 units in FY 2016-17 to highest-ever of 5,775,243 units in FY 2017-18. Also, Honda’s exports crossed the 3-lakh threshold for the first time and registered an increase of 23 per cent in the year under review.

Bajaj Auto

With a total of 33,69,334 units moved during FY 2018-17, Bajaj Auto recorded a growth of 5 per cent as compared to FY 2016-17. The Pune-based bike maker sold 2,69,939 units during the month of March 2018, which translates to 11 per cent YoY increase.

Suzuki

Suzuki too enjoyed a record-breaking FY 2017-18, registering a growth of 43 per cent in the domestic market and clocking its highest-ever sales of 5,01,226 units. The corresponding sales for FY 2016-17 were 3,50,496 units. Riding the growth-curve into the month of March 2018 as well, Suzuki Motorcycle India recorded sales of 51,858 units, with a YoY growth of 23.2 per cent over the last year.
