BYD Ocean-M Concept Debuts at 2024 Beijing Auto Show, Previews Electric Hatchback for China

BYD has revealed the Ocean-M hatchback concept at Auto China 2024. In India, the Chinese automaker's most recent release was the Seal sedan.

BYD has unveiled the Ocean-M hatch concept at China's largest auto exhibition. The concept offers an early look at the upcoming electric hot hatch for the Chinese market, which could cost between RMB 150,000 and RMB 200,000 (around Rs 17.24 lakh and Rs 22.98 lakh, respectively). The concept has an aggressive appearance and is slightly larger than the Dolphin. It is equipped with slim headlamps with in-built LED DRLs, a split lower lip around the air intake, heavy body cladding, flush-type door handles, an all-black roof and pillars, and 5-spoke wheels. BYD Ocean-M Concept: Interior and Features 

While the interior details are still under wraps, the car is expected to feature equipment such as a digital instrument dashboard, two-tone interiors, a bigger touchscreen infotainment system, a high-end sound system, and wireless charging. For safety, the concept may get ADAS features.

BYD claims that the Ocean M will have an entirely new electric architecture as its foundation, possibly the e-platform 4.0. The company currently has cars such as the Dolphin and the Seal based on e-Platform 3.0 in its lineup. While there has been no formal announcement, the new platform may bring along enhancements in terms of aesthetics, safety, and efficiency.

BYD Seals Launched in India

BYD launched the Seal on March 5 in India at a starting price of Rs 41 lakh (ex-showroom). The high-end EV is available in three variants – entry-level Dynamic, mid-level Premium, and higher-spec Performance, which are priced at Rs 41 lakh, Rs 45.55 lakh, and Rs 53 lakh, respectively. The Seal has a sloping roofline, electronic hidden flush door handles, a rear LED bar running the entire length of the bonnet, and diamond-cut 19-inch dual-tone alloys.

The EV is available in four colour options – Aurora White, Cosmos Black, Atlantis Grey, and Arctic Blue. Besides the Seal, BYD offers the e6 MPV (Rs 29.15 lakh) and the Atto 3 SUV (Rs 33.99 lakh) in India.
