Triumph Motorcycles has finally pulled the wraps off the brand-new Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X. These bikes are a product of the Bajaj and Triumph partnership and will be produced in India by Bajaj. Mechanically, a 398cc liquid-cooled engine with a maximum output of 37.5Nm at 6500rpm and 39.5bhp at 8000rpm powers both motorcycles. For transmission, it employs a six-speed gearbox. In our market, the Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X will officially launch on July 5. According to market estimations, the Speed 400 is expected to cost somewhere around Rs 3 Lakh, whereas the Scrambler 400X is likely to command slightly more. As the bikes are on the verge of entering our market, let's look at the features, specs, and design with which these come equipped.

The new motorcycles have a pleasant visual appeal. The Speed 400 does have some similarities with the Speed Twin 900, but the overall appearance is fresh and rather contemporary. On the other hand, while the suspension travel is identical to the Speed 400, the Scrambler 400X doesn't appear to be a true scrambler. The Scrambler 400X has split seats, dual-purpose tyres, and a new exhaust system. Both motorcycles have distinct measurements when it comes to their total size. The Scrambler 400X has a slightly larger wheelbase (1,418mm) than the Speed 400, which has a 1,377mm wheelbase. The seat heights themselves vary. The Scrambler 400X is higher at 835mm compared to the Speed 400's 790mm.

An entirely new single-cylinder motor that Triumph refers to as the TR-series engine powers these two new bikes. It had a liquid cooling system, a DOHC engine, and a 398cc displacement. The Triumph's power and torque numbers, 39.5bhp at 8000rpm and 37.5Nm at 6500rpm, are pretty comparable to those of the KTM 390 series, albeit the British motorcycles reach their maximum output sooner in the rev range. The Triumphs come with a 6-speed transmission, much like the KTMs. It's interesting to see that the bigger 900cc twin-cylinder Triumph models still have a 5-speed transmission.

Triumph Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X: Hardware and Colour Options

The front suspension on the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X has a 43mm large piston with 150mm of travel, while the rear suspension is a monoshock with preload adjustment. The Scrambler 400X has 19 front alloy wheels, while the Speed 400 has 17-inch alloy wheels. For now, the spoke-wheel variants are not offered. The front and rear callipers of the Sped 400 measure 300mm and 230mm, respectively. On the other side, the Scrambler 400X has a larger 320mm front disc. Both motorcycles come with dual-channel ABS as standard equipment.

There are three colour options for the Triumph Speed 400: Carnival Red, Caspian Blue, and Phantom Black. Meanwhile, the Scrambler 400X will be offered for sale in Phantom Black, Khaki Green, and Carnival Red.

Triumph Speed 400 Instrument Cluster

All-LED lighting, ride-by-wire, switchable traction control, dual-channel ABS, an immobiliser, an assist clutch, a USB-C charging port, and semi-digital instrument clusters are all included as standard features on both bikes. The dash has a sizable analogue tachometer and a small LCD display next to it. A digital tachometer, a gear position indicator, trip information, and a fuel gauge are all shown on the screen. It is intriguing to see that the heated grip emblem is also present; maybe the British automaker will sell this as an accessory. The dual-channel ABS on the Scrambler may also be switched to off-road mode, according to the manufacturer. On July 5th, both bikes will be rolled out in the Indian market, and by August, deliveries are scheduled to commence.
