TVS has launched the Scooty Pep Plus BS6 in India. Its prices start at Rs 51,754 for the standard variant, while the ones with special paint schemes – Babelicious and Matte Edition – are priced at Rs 52,954 (all prices are ex-showroom). The Scooty Pep Plus BS6 marks a hike of around Rs 6,700 over the outgoing BS4 version.

Powering the scooter is the same air-cooled 87.8cc single-cylinder engine, but it now meets stricter BS6 norms. The power output is more or less unchanged, as it produces 5bhp@6,500 rpm, along with 5.8Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The power transmission duties are carried out by a CVT gearbox, and the braking system includes drum brakes of 110mm dia on both wheels. The scooter tips the scales at just 95 kilos (kerb weight), meaning it’ll still be a very friendly and manageable two-wheeler for both new riders and women.

The engine features something called ‘EcoThrust’ technology, which improves acceleration at low speeds and results in better fuel efficiency as well. Feature-wise, the scooter is equipped with a 12V socket for charging mobile phones, and there’s a side stand alarm as well. Design-wise, there isn’t anything particularly new. It does, however, get two new colour schemes – coral matter and aqua matter.

TVS also claims to have transitioned to BS6 vehicles with the deadline kicking into force from April 1, 2020. According to the company, all of its dealers have almost cleared out their BS4 stock, and they will now focus on BS6 products.

However, due to the ongoing Coronavirus crisis, the company registered a massive sales slump of 55% in the month of March 2020.
