Perhaps the most distinctive looking iteration of the current Porsche 911 model line-up gets refreshed for 2020 and gets the signature 992-gen treatment.
After the Carrera S, Carrera, and the 911 Turbo models, the 911 Targa becomes the latest iteration of Porsche's flagship to get the current 992-gen makeover. Revealed earlier today online, the 2020 Porsche 911 Targa 4 and 4S retain the signature roll hoop, the wraparound glass window, and the all-wheel-drive (AWD) system – all the elements that give the 911 Targa its distinctive personality & appeal.
Apart from cosmetic upgrades, the 2020 911 Targa has got some mechanical changes too. Though both the 911 Targa 4 & 4S are powered by the same 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six engine as the 911 Carrera models, the base Targa 4 version develops 380bhp (15bhp more than its 7th-gen predecessor) & 450Nm of torque. The hotter 911 Targa 4S, on the other hand, develops 444bhp (around 30 more than its predecessor) & 530Nm of torque.
The transmission units on both the Targa 4 & 4S have been upgraded to the latest 8-speed PDK automatic, ditching the erstwhile 7-speed DCT. The 2020 911 Targa 4S, however, can also be bought with a conventional seven-speed manual gearbox that's paired to the Sport Chrono package (recently introduced on the 911 Carrera S & 4S models in Europe).
With driver aids like Porsche Traction Management (PTM), Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Porsche Wet Mode and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) part of standard equipment, the 2020 911 Targa range also gets new optional equipment like Porsche InnoDrive (Adaptive Cruise Control) and Smartlift function (adjustable ride height).
The 911 Targa line-up will further be expanded with a Heritage Design Special Edition, due to be revealed next month.
