2023 Hyundai Verna India Launch Tomorrow; What We Know So Far

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) plans to announce the price of the much-anticipated new-generation Verna tomorrow. The Korean automaker has already begun taking reservations for the compact sedan, which will compete in the segment with the Honda City, the Volkswagen Virtus, the Skoda Slavia, and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Bookings are currently available for a nominal fee of Rs 25,000, both online and at authorised dealerships. In comparison to the previous model, the new Hyundai Verna will be larger, more powerful, and equipped with several segment-first features. It will also be the second sedan in its class to receive ADAS technology. For the uninitiated, the ADAS Level 2 features and 30 standard features will be available with every sedan variant. Tarun Garg, COO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd., recently commented on the new features offered with the 2023 Verna, saying, "The all-new Hyundai Verna perfectly reflects this vision and will boast of a comprehensive safety feature package of 30 standard safety features. Additionally, as we transition closer to delivering futuristic mobility experiences, the all-new Hyundai Verna will also be equipped with Hyundai SmartSense – Level 2 ADAS that will create a new benchmark in this segment.”

2023 Hyundai Verna: Engine and Gearbox

The all-new Hyundai Verna will come with a 1.5-litre gasoline engine that can be either turbocharged or naturally aspirated. The car will still be available with a seven-speed DCT transmission option for the turbocharged variants in addition to the six-speed manual and CVT gearbox options. The turbocharged 1.5-litre engine will be more potent with an output of 158bhp and 253Nm, while the standard 1.5-litre engine is anticipated to produce 113bhp of maximum power and 144Nm of peak torque.

2023 Hyundai Verna: Exterior and Dimensions

The sixth-generation Verna was designed with Hyundai's latest 'Sensuous Sportiness' design language. The sporty front end of the 2023 Hyundai Verna gets a new blacked-out grille with integrated LED headlamps and a sharp-looking bumper with LED strips running symmetrically across the face of the car. LED lighting is also used in the taillamps. The side has the same sporty look as the front. The sedan has a premium feel thanks to its sharp character lines. The diamond-cut alloy wheels are also sporty in appearance. Because of its rising beltline and coupe-like rear end, the new Hyundai Verna stands out among mid-size sedans.

With a 1,765mm width, the new Verna will be the widest sedan in its class. The 2,670mm wheelbase, which will be the longest in the segment, guarantees that both rows of passengers will have plenty of legroom. The new Verna measures 1,475mm in height and 4,535mm in length. The Verna from Hyundai may come standard with 15-inch alloy wheels.

2023 Hyundai Verna: Segment-first Features

Hyundai has revealed that the upcoming new Verna will be equipped with the Advanced Driver Assistant System (ADAS), in terms of features (ADAS). According to the automaker, the Verna 2023 will have level 2 ADAS features using Hyundai SmartSense, with about 17 features. The ADAS features that will be added are comparable to those that Hyundai already provides in its latest Tucson SUV model. These include, among others, rear cross-traffic alert, high beam assist, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, and driver attention warning. In India, the Verna will follow the recently launched Honda City facelift as the second sedan to offer ADAS technology.

Along with about 65 safety features, the upcoming Verna will also have a number of market-first features. These include, among others, tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS), electronic stability control (ESC), vehicle stability management (VSM), hill-start assist control (HAC), and electronic parking brake (EPB). 

2023 Hyundai Verna: Interior Details

The new Hyundai Verna's interior will also receive an update with new furnishings and technology. A new 10.25-inch HD infotainment screen and a digital cluster with TFT MID will be located in the middle of the dashboard. Additionally, the Verna 2023 will feature a climate control system that is the first of its kind in the segment. According to the company, this will improve the interaction with both functionalities. Moreover, the updated Verna will now have heated and ventilated front seats, another industry first. The Hyundai Verna's eight-speaker Bose audio system is one of the interior's other standout feature.

2023 Hyundai Verna: Expected Price and Rivals

The current Hyundai Verna generation costs between Rs 15.71 lakh and Rs 29.63 lakh (ex-showroom), and is offered in both gasoline and diesel options. However, Hyundai will no longer make the new Verna available with a diesel engine. When compared with its predecessor, the prices are anticipated to be significantly revised. The Hyundai Verna is expected to have a starting price of approximately Rs 11 lakh and a top-spec model with ADAS features that will cost Rs 18 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom).

Due to the number of features and size that the updated Verna is expected to offer, the existing cars will undoubtedly face fierce competition when it enters the Indian market tomorrow. As mentioned earlier, the Hyundai Verna will be rivalled by the new 2023 Honda City, the Volkswagen Virtus, the Skoda Slavia, and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
